Dr. Schenkel was a three-sport athlete throughout high school, participating in field hockey, basketball, and softball. During her medical training she worked with many high school, undergraduate, semi-professional, and professional sports teams including Mahopac High School, Arlington High School, Vassar College, Mount Saint Mary College, Pace University, Kingston Stockade, Hudson Valley Renegades Professional Minor League Baseball Affiliate of the New York Yankees, and Professional Women’s Hockey League, New York. Dr. Robert Stanton, the senior orthopaedic surgeon in Orthopaedic Specialty Group, PC, was recently honored to be the Godfather of the 50th Annual Meeting of the Herodicus Society. Per the Mission Statement, “The Herodicus Society is a collegial group of orthopaedic leaders whose mission is to share clinical experience and research to promote education and improve care for patients and athletes.” The organization includes about 200 national and international leaders in the field of orthopaedic sports medicine. Dr. Stanton delivered the keynote address; “The Ethics of a Team Physician.” He also gave a presentation titled “Serendipity: How random encounters led to a career in orthopaedic sports medicine.” Dr. Stanton moved to Fairfield in 1977 after completing his orthopaedic residency at Yale in. He has been a member of Orthopaedic Specialty Group since 1980, serving for approximately 30 years as its Chairman. He is a past President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (2011-2012) and served as Chairman of the Medical Publishing Board of Trustees of AOSSM (2015-2020). He continues to care for individuals of all ages with a special interest in Sports Medicine. He has served as the Team Physician at Fairfield University for 40+ years and was a physician for the US Ski Team for 30 years. He is in the office part time, allowing him to spend more time with his wife Mandy, his two border collies, and visiting kids and grandkids. He is an expert weeder and can often be found in the garden weeding and following the instructions from his wife, the immediate past President of the Sasqua Garden Club. #osgpc #sportsmedicine #thegodfather #HerodicusSociety
