Iceland is a land of breathtaking wonders—from its unique language to the rugged landscapes carved by spectacular rivers and the countless waterfalls you can encounter in just one day. While fishing for sea-run brown trout with Fish Partner guides Kristján Rafnsson and Sindri Hlíðar Jónsson, Phil Monahan had the thrilling experience of landing a beautiful Atlantic salmon, fresh from the sea. It was the last week of July, and the salmon run had just begun. Initially, high and muddy rivers made conditions tough, but as the waters dropped and cleared, the fishing improved dramatically. Anglers eager to catch the peak of this incredible run can click the link in our story to learn more about Orvis Week at Battle Hill Lodge.

Tom Rosenbauer asks Melissa Ceren - Is Fly Fishing Really Good for your Mental Health? We often hear that fly fishing is great for mental health—it gets you outdoors, encourages problem-solving, and keeps you active throughout the day. But is fly fishing always beneficial for your mind? Can there be times when it actually worsens your mood? And what steps can you take to ensure a day on the water leaves you feeling refreshed? To explore this, Tom speaks with with Melissa Ceren, a fly-fishing guide and licensed therapist. They delve into the mental health benefits of fly fishing, while also considering its potential downsides. A fun and insightful conversation. #Orvis #fishing #flyfishing #mentalhealth #outdoors #mood

Hemangiosarcoma is a fast-growing and deadly cancer common in dogs. It spreads quickly, often without any warning signs, until it suddenly strikes. Tragically, a dog dies from this cancer every two minutes. Through the Orvis Cover Dog Contest, we've teamed up with the Morris Animal Foundation to help find ways to fight this disease, including supporting studies like the Hemangiosarcoma Initiative. This cancer usually starts in the bone marrow and spreads to areas with a rich blood supply, like the heart and spleen. Because these are vital organs, hemangiosarcoma is particularly dangerous. Tumors in these areas can rupture unexpectedly, leading to severe blood loss and forcing pet owners to make life-or-death decisions quickly. This cancer mostly affects, middle-aged to older dogs and breeds like German shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Labradors. Though certain breeds are more at risk, any dog can develop this cancer. Sadly, there are usually no symptoms until the tumor ruptures, causing internal bleeding. Pet owners may notice occasional fatigue, lack of appetite, panting, sudden collapse, or even sudden death. There IS hope. In recent years, research has uncovered new insights into hemangiosarcoma, including the potential role of bacteria like Bartonella spp. Researchers are also studying how spaying and neutering may influence the disease, though no firm conclusions have been reached yet. With our support, the Morris Animal Foundation has invested over $3 million in research to improve the outlook for dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. This research focuses on understanding the disease, overcoming chemotherapy resistance, and studying genetic links to find better diagnostic tests and treatments. Join us...your vote in the Orvis Cover Dog Contest helps us raise money to cure this horrific disease. Meet "Moose"! - If chosen, Moose will win a $500 gift card, $900 worth of Purina Pro Plan food, and help fund canine cancer research…all with a single photograph. But hurry - this contest ends October 1, 2024. Visit: coverdog.orvis.com #Orvis #dogs #caninecancer #caninehealth #togetherwecan #beatcancer

Pro Tips: How to Use the “Elimination Diet” to Catch Educated Trout Since moving back to Colorado’s Front Range, Evan Jones has been reminded of just how discerning and ‘technical’ some trout can be, especially under constant fishing pressure. Their ability to detect the tiniest details is almost eerie—even when your drift is perfect. Some trout are so adept at ignoring flies that it feels like they’re keyed in on one specific pattern, and unless you match it precisely, they won’t bite. Read on for Evan's tips on how to catch these educated trout. #Orvis #fishing #flyfishing #onthewater #education #trout

Tom Rosenbauer will tell you the most exciting way to fly-fish for bass and panfish is to use topwater bugs, but sometimes the fish may not want to commit to eating a surface fly. In this case, try a Popper-Dropper setup. The commotion caused by the popper attracts the attention of the fish, and then they see a tasty nymph hanging there. You'll be surprised by just how effective this technique can be. #Orvis #flyfishing #fishing #fishingtips #education #bass #onthewater
