My ranking of non-big-tech AI players today: Anthropic probably 1st, Meta 2nd, OpenAI 3rd, Bittensor 4th but can be #1 by far in future, Liquid AI 5th but stealth, Mistral and others 6th, etc.. Reality tho is that the top 3 actually ARE big tech. My ranking is highly focused on fundamental technical output and cost / performance data. Remember: these ranking change dynamically at frequent intervals, based on a lot of factors not everyone is aware of. They are my own and subjective. Do not trade or invest on these statements, etc

Here’s a good way to understand how Bittensor works in the context of traditional startups! But remember the focus of Bittensor is incentivizing the decentralized creation of state-of-art AI models (training / inference / compute, etc). Cool thing about the Bittensor “industry” / “marketplace” is that there is no such thing as public shares or private shares .. all subnet tokens are liquid immediately! There is a HUGE amount of stuff getting built to accommodate infinitely more complex and rich value creation infrastructure for all possible AI commodities to be created in the most frictionless and abundant manner on Bittensor. The network is very young and basically where Bitcoin was in 2011 (which you can think of as a Single Subnet on Bittensor).

Reflecting on ~ 3 years as founding lead seed investor in Parallel Studios, W4 Games, OpenBB, Cal.com, Inc., Hoppscotch and NocoDB … we invested pre-revenue and pre-product and pre-launch, when the founders were the only employees — today, these startups now serve tens of millions of users, generate tens of millions in ARR and employ < 150 people to create this value from zero when OSS Capital invested at incorporation. It has been so humbling to see these incredible founders tackle very different market segments (gaming, infrastructure, scheduling, APIs, finance and productivity)… out of investing in many dozens of founders over the years, these founders have taught me so much about the power of believing in mission driven motivation — nothing else matters. Serve the mission, be obsessed with your mission and everything else will fall into place. You want mission-driven servant leaders? What’s the avg. founder stake for VC / pre-mined tokens? 20%? 15%? Usually way more. Bitcoin’s Satoshi owns 5% and that’s considered THE MOST fair launch project. … Bittensor’s founders (Ala Shaabana and Jacob Steeves) barely own 2% collectively.

More than a dozen teams are earning > $1M "mining" (aka making open source AI models) on the Bittensor network. Subnet 9 incentivizes the production of pre-training outputs.
