As we close out #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth, it’s fitting that The White House has released new guidance on AI. The new National Security Memorandum (NSM) on Advancing U.S. Leadership in Artificial Intelligence marks a pivotal step in leveraging AI for national security objectives while emphasizing AI safety, security, and trustworthiness. This NSM builds on the requirements established in Executive Order 14110 (2023), providing additional guidance on U.S. government AI operations, both domestically and abroad, while prioritizing the protection of human rights, civil rights, safety, and privacy. At OTHSolutions, we have long been committed to AI governance initiatives, collaborating closely with homeland security clients to inform and develop responsible AI practices and to support the strategy and analysis that shape effective public policy. While additional Executive guidance on AI is still anticipated, we’re eager to continue our support and to incorporate the critical guidance set forth by this NSM. As AI technology evolves, the need for robust governance frameworks that enhance security and protect individual rights becomes increasingly urgent. OTHSolutions' very own Dana Faddoul recently participated in the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency-facilitated Solar Convergence Tabletop Exercise on September 18 in Rosslyn. This comprehensive exercise included representatives from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Federal Communications Commission, Emergency Services Sector, and many others. They tackled scenarios across three crucial modules: Pre-Incident Information Sharing, Incident Response, and Recovery and Resilience. The day was filled with invaluable insights and strategies to enhance national security. Hats off to Dana for contributing to this vital exercise and helping prepare for potential disruptions.
