We are developing an ultrasound otoscope to detect type middle ear infections so clinicians can reduce antibiotic use.
About us
OtoNexus Medical Technologies is revolutionizing the diagnosis and management of middle ear infections. The OtoNexus technology platform harnesses the power of ultrasound technology to rapidly and accurately determine both the presence and the type of fluid behind the eardrum, providing a superior alternative to outdated diagnostic methods. By accurately determining the type of infection, healthcare providers can avoid prescribing antibiotics when they are not needed, helping to combat the growing issues of antibiotic resistance. Accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment could reduce healthcare costs by minimizing complications and the need for additional treatments or follow-up visits. Patients will benefit from a faster, non-invasive diagnostic procedure, leading to quicker treatment and potentially shorter recovery times. Healthcare providers will benefit from a reliable and easy-to-use tool that enhances their diagnostic capabilities and supports their decision-making process. One-use-per-patient proprietary disposable tips incorporating this new patented ultrasound technology create a recurring revenue stream. The device is a simple, affordable, portable, lightweight, non-invasive tool that provides data in 1-2 seconds on the type of middle ear infection. With this information, healthcare providers can accurately assess middle ear infections and responsibly treat them with antibiotics when appropriate.

Meet our Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. George Gates, an ENT surgeon for over four decades and a world-renowned expert on otitis media. He noted a lack of effective tools available to clinicians to detect and diagnose middle ear infections accurately so that antibiotics could be prescribed judiciously. He was inspired to test the feasibility of using ultrasound to assess otitis media. This work was proven by an SBIR grant validating that ultrasound could be used in the ear without a gel coupling agent. Thank you, Keiretsu Forum for your support and leadership in providing opportunities for women entrepreneurs in medical device development. #WomenEntrepreneurs #MedicalInnovation #KeiretsuForum #MedTech
Time and again, we have seen women break the ceiling and lead an era of change. In our new series, Women of Innovation, we celebrate such revolutionary personalities and share their inspiring journeys. In our first post, we have Caitlin Cameron, CEO of OtoNexus Medical Technologies. Caitlin started her career as the CEO of CellNetix Pathology and Laboratories, where she grew the team from 13 to 180 and increased the profits significantly in 2.5 years without any external funding. She oversaw several mergers and acquisitions to expand the scale of operations, redesigned workflow and personnel functions to reduce per-unit costs and built a high-performing executive management team. During her stint at Presage Biosciences as the President & CEO, she was responsible for building start-up biosciences company to commercialize technologies developed at the Fred Hutchingson Cancer Research Center. She also closed $6.5 Mn in pure angel funding in two rounds, brought in 50 investors, and preserved the capital structure. Caitlin later joined Life Science Washington as a Board Chair and served as an advocate for positive public policy and private investment, bringing together research institutions, investors, and entrepreneurs to grow and build healthier communities. Presently, she is the Chair and CEO of OtoNexus Medical Technologies, building a medical device that detects the presence and type of middle ear infections. Caitlin has a wealth of experience in building and managing healthcare companies. Her journey motivates us to focus on well-rounded development in organizations and take challenges head-on. Here's to Caitlin Cameron! #KeiretsuWomenOfInnovation #WomenOfInnovation #Healthcare #Otonexus
