Super Typhoon Yagi is approaching China's southern coast, expected to be the strongest storm to make landfall in the country in nearly a decade. As of Thursday, it was located 610km southeast of Xuwen County, Guangdong Province, with maximum sustained winds of 210kmph. The storm is moving westward at 10-15kmph, bringing heavy rains to coastal areas of Guangdong and Hainan. Landfall is anticipated between Qionghai (Hainan) and Dianbai (Guangdong) on Friday afternoon or night. Typhoon Yagi has already killed at least 13 people in the Philippines, where it triggered landslides and floods earlier this week. Second episode of our series: "I have been shipping hundreds of cargo, I never suffered a loss. What are the chances I’ll need Delay Insurance?" Take a look at this article from Angelo Mathais at The Loadstar : Bad weather causes chaos at Indian ports, and cargo #backlogs build. Yes: delays happen frequently. Otonomi uniquely bridges the gap of excluded cargo delays and offers supplemental insurance that covers consequential losses due to delayed shipments. Contact us for a demo: https://lnkd.in/ebUJn6PR

"I have been shipping hundreds of cargo, I never suffered a loss. What are the chances I’ll need Delay Insurance?" You got lucky. 54-62% of air cargo shipments are delayed every year. Events like the CrowdStrike Outage, natural catastrophes or severe weather can occur and are #outofyourcontrol. Existing risk assessment models indicate that approximately 30% of losses cannot be prevented. That’s why we created Otonomi. President Franklin D. Roosevelt designated August 19 as #NationalAviationDay in 1939, coinciding with Orville Wright's birth date in 1871. This choice honored Wright's contributions to aviation. Orville Wright, who lived until 1948, personally signed the pilot certificates of numerous pioneering aviators, adding significance to their achievements. Since then, the aviation industry has experienced steady growth, driven by increasing demand for air travel and cargo services. The air freight transport market in the United States is currently valued at approximately $23 billion. At Otonomi we decided to support the aviation industry by offering the first ever Air Cargo Delay Insurance. Take a look at our product demo.

Fantastic article published in Supply Chain Digital: Analyzing Transit Time Delays Along Key Global Trade Routes, By Nidhi Gupta, CEO at Portcast. Link to the full article in the comment section. ⏱ “Globally, there is an average increase of approximately 30% in transit times and around 20% increase in overall container journey times. 🚢 Factors contributing to delays include: -> the Red Sea crisis, -> blank sailings, -> Panama Canal restrictions, -> weather conditions, -> and port congestion. We developed a product to tackle the ever-growing issues in ocean delays. Following the heightened volatility in the global supply chain, we’ve observed increasing financial pressure on customers’ bottomline especially affected by shipments interruptions via maritime, which have experienced the worst logjams and port disruptions in decades. Another day and another incident in a container ship. -> An explosion followed by a fire occurred on the MSC Capetown III container ship while it was docked at the Port of Colombo, #SriLanka, on August 11. -> Prior to the incident, 60 containers above deck, including one with dangerous cargo, had been unloaded. -> The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) announced an investigation into the incident, with insurers also conducting their own inquiries. -> It's the second incident in three days, following a similar explosion and fire on the YM Mobility, in the Chinese port of Ningbo-Zhoushan on August 9.
