We appreciate our friends from CORE and their team of subcontractors! Together, they did a fantastic job remodeling our office. This morning, the CORE team took time out of their day to cook breakfast for all the subcontractors who worked on the OBCI HQ remodel project. As a subcontractor, OBCI wanted to get as many of CORE’s subs together to say thanks! A special shout-out to Aaron Underwood and Andrew Michel (Harrison Meece before Andrew) for keeping our project on track. Also, thanks to CORE’s own breakfast duo, Tony Segobiano and Becky Dluski - great job with breakfast, it was delicious and well received by all!  #ottobaumcompany #CORE1937#breakfasttacos

OBCI was hired by Golf Construction to install new precast copings on patio and plaza walls at Illinois State University’s DeGarmo Hall. However, ISU desired the exposed aggregate walls to be transformed by cladding with thin brick to match the masonry look on campus. A change order (over 10,0000 sq ft of thin brick) was issued, and OBCI got to work on installation after Golf Construction removed the exposed aggregate from the walls. The crew, led by John Surprenant, anticipates completion this fall. We agree with ISU; brick looks better! #ottobaumcompany #restoration

Members of the OBCI board of directors, management and CIB staff were provided a tour of the work going on at the Illinois Capitol. Here is CIB’s post!

Otto Baum Company, Inc. Otto Baum Company, Inc., provided the CIB staff with an exceptional tour of their work at the Springfield, Illinois Capitol. Originally constructed in 1868, the renovations are extensive and impressive. We had the opportunity to explore the underground areas, witness the remarkable work of the team, and learn about the vision for the project's completion. Thank you, OBCI, for including us and for being a member of CIB! 👷♂️ 🚧 🏗 #SpringfieldIllinois #ConstructionIndustry #Renovations #StateCapitol

OBCI foreman Bill Speaker is currently working on a complete exterior restoration at Lincoln's Tomb in Springfield. The restoration includes replacing granite, epoxy, and sealant. For Illinois history buffs, here are some fun facts: The tomb features a full-length statue of Lincoln in front of an obelisk, with four bronze statues at the corners representing the Civil War's infantry, navy, artillery, and cavalry. Forty shields connected by raised bands surround the obelisk's base, each engraved with the name of a state to symbolize the Union. We appreciate CAD Construction selecting us to work on this historic landmark. #ottobaumcompany #restoration

Recently, OBCI was hired by R.L. Vollintine Construction, Inc. to provide below-grade waterproofing to prevent leaking in a tunnel running from the Old State Capitol parking deck to the Illinois State Treasurer’s office in Springfield, IL. OBCI’s scope included applying a Zypex slurry coat to the existing concrete deck and replacing deteriorated stone pavers at the main building entrance with new material. #ottobaumcompany #restoration

OBCI was selected as the contractor to replace the courtyard at ICC, East Peoria Campus. CDB provided a portion of the funding, and Terra Engineering worked with the CDB and ICC to provide the design. The main reasons for the courtyard replacement were to correct multiple ADA issues and to modernize the area allowing students to enjoy and utilize the outdoor space. Major challenges included only one entry/exit that needed to be shared by all contractors as well as multiple unknown underground utilities and obstructions. To start the project, demolition (River City Demolition) of the existing courtyard was completed, and OBCI followed up with all earthwork and concrete. Waterproofing (Western Waterproofing) of exposed building foundations was completed. New storm and sanitary sewer work (GA Rich & Sons) was included to accommodate the new grading layout. The re-design includes a blend of concrete surfacing (OBCI) and a mix of pavers (Interlock Brick Paving) as seen in the photos. A complete landscaping (Central Landscaping), outdoor lighting package (Foster Jacobs), and irrigation package (TCI Companies) was also included, in addition to an outdoor deck area with canopy (Givsco) to be used as an outdoor dining area. All the outdoor furnishings, seating areas, and handrails (Kelly Ornamental Iron) were updated with charging ports for student’s devices. As you can see in the before and after pics, ICC students have a beautiful new courtyard to enjoy for years to come. #ottobaumcompany #commercialconcrete #illinoiscentralcollege
