✨Guided by a vision of a world that supports girls’ dreams, power, and resistance, we are thrilled to officially announce Our Collective Practice✨ We are a feminist hub for learning, experimentation, and collaboration. Our Collective Practice was seeded in 2020, building on decades of direct work and organising with girls and young people, movement activism, and philanthropic advocacy. We work in partnership with movements, sectors and culture change makers to build narrative, knowledge and collective power – with and for girls. 💬 Why is Our Collective Practice so important “Our Collective Practice is a necessary nexus for the girls' rights movement that while successful in many ways is still rooting itself. There is so much well-intentioned work happening in support of girls and young women. And yet, girls deserve more than just our good intentions. They deserve us to be well-coordinated. They deserve rigour and precision in our interventions and programming. They deserve the best of what we know. This is the promise of Our Collective Practice — a gathering place for all those working with and on behalf of girls' power.” - Dr.Ramatu Bangura, Founding Director, Children's Rights Innovation Fund (CRIF) “The practitioners behind Our Collective Practice are some of the most creative forces reshaping philanthropy to be more visionary and accessible to girls. They bring a deep understanding of philanthropy and center all of the complexity and nuances that encompasses girlhood to transform how we understand and resource girls. Our Collective Practice seeds connections, opens doors, builds bridges, and fills in the archive so that young feminists can grow their activism and be in the conversations where decisions are made about their lives. It is a bold space for transformation, experimentation, and creativity to build a more just future for all of us.” Divya Sooryakumar, Former Director of Grantmaking, MADRE “The girls' field is at a crossroad. It is critical that we move girls' activism from the margins to the centre ground in any conversations about gender justice and human rights. We can only do that when we come together, answer critical questions as a field, and produce the evidence we all need to tell the indisputable truth of girls’ power. Our Collective Practice will do all of this and more. As critical infrastructure for the girls rights field, we could not be more thrilled to partner.” - Rosa Bransky, Co-founder & Co-CEO, Purposeful 💜🌍Learn more about us, our approach, partners, and initiatives: https://lnkd.in/gZvu7YUZ 🔮 Deeply grateful to Shreya Gupta for her guidance, care, and brilliance in developing our visual identity and website.

The power, resistance, and dreams of girls from across Eastern and Southern Africa shine through in this regional collection, which documents and amplifies their stories from Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda. ✊🏾🌍 "These stories highlight the role and centrality of girls in shaping the economic, social, political, and cultural aspects of the Eastern and Southern Africa region. The stories articulate, in detail, the role of girls in fighting apartheid, shaping policy on various issues, reimagining a different reality for themselves without discrimination, violence, and oppression rooted in patriarchy and male dominance. " shared the regional curator Catherine Nyambura. 🌍✨ 📿As a narrative expression tool, each girl chose an artifact to symbolize her struggle and her vision for a better future, from cherished bracelets passed down by female role models to books, portraits, whistles, and more. These objects embody their resistance and dreams. 🔗 Visit: https://lnkd.in/ecX9x3c2 — Direct link in our profile & stories📲 ✨ Explore the complete Stories of Girls' Resistance Regional Collections —the largest ever collection of oral and narrative history of adolescent girls' activism, offering a window into girls' lives and their resistance in all of its messiness, pain, and power. 🔗📖: https://lnkd.in/eHmRrGjR #GirlsResistance #GirlsResist #FeministFutures Acknowledgments: The East and Southern Africa stories of resistance were curated by Cate Nyambura in partnership with Lusungu Kalanga, Rachael mwikali and Nebila Abdulmelik. Girl resistance is rooted in hope and the strength of unapologetic liberation ✨ As shared by Mahasin from Sudan, featured in this post: “Liberation to me is when I can state my opinion freely, and I can address certain problems or all of the problems I am facing without being taken for granted. Or disregarded just because of my gender”.” 💪🏾👧🏾 🌍From Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, and Sudan to Uganda, the Eastern and Southern Africa series documents 14 stories of resistance, power, and dreams across the region. We amplify and honour their stories in deep solidarity with all girls resisting multilayered injustices, crises, and oppressions. “Despite NGOization across the region, the stories provide evidence and breathe life to what we already know: women and girls have always been agents of change and central to activism and social movements,” highlights the regional curator Cate Nyambura. 🌍✨ ✨ Dive into the Stories of Girls' Resistance Regional Collection—the largest ever collection of oral and narrative history of adolescent girls’ activism, offering a window into girls’ lives and their resistance in all of its messiness, pain, and power. 🔗📖: https://lnkd.in/eHmRrGjR #GirlsResistance #GirlsResist #FeministFutures 🌱 Acknowledgments: The East and Southern Africa stories of resistance were curated by Cate Nyambura in partnership with Lusungu Kalanga, Rachael mwikali and Nebila Abdulmelik. 🌺 From Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, to Trinidad and Tobago—the Caribbean collection features 16 powerful stories of resistance, power, and dreams across the region. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/eNKh6SRd We amplify their stories in solidarity with all girls across the Caribbean who are resisting and responding to relentless climate crises, economic injustice, and multilayered systems of oppression.✊🏾🌿 As Alian Ollivierre-Skeete, the lead regional curator, shares, "We see stories spanning two or three generations, each with shared personal experiences of violence during girlhood, living in communities that made them feel unprotected and undeserving. Yet, despite all that, I see hope. A Caribbean where, regardless of lived experiences, these girls and women have triumphed, are thriving, and are using their power to resist the very structures that failed them." 🌸💪🏽 One such story is from Aisha of Saint Lucia, featured in this post. When asked what freedom looked like, she responded with one word: “colourful.” To her, “colourful” means more freedom, more happiness. 🎨🌈 She is now working to create a world that is "safer, more free… a world where everyone is equal." This regional multimedia collection also includes powerful poetry and spoken word by Aphia Blugh and Keziah Taylor🫀 ✨ Dive into the Stories of Girls' Resistance Regional Collection—the largest ever collection of oral and narrative history of adolescent girls’ activism, offering a window into girls’ lives and their resistance in all of its messiness, pain, and power. 🔗📖: https://lnkd.in/eHmRrGjR 🌱 Acknowledgments: The Caribbean stories of girls’ resistance were led by the Caribbean Girls' Collective. Our Collective Practice reminds me how grateful l am to have contributed to the impactful Stories of Girls' Resistance project, two years ago, thanks to the trust and vision of Muna Lobé. Her support allowed me to illustrate powerful stories of resilience, dreams, and determination from young girls across West Africa—from Burkina Faso to Sierra Leone. This project, curated by Francoise Moudouthe and hosted by Eyala plateform, offers an intimate look at 13 narratives that show the complexity of resistance and hope. Rachel-Diane, a young activist from Cameroon, shares: “Hope is the possibility of thinking about Cameroon without the feeling of despair.” Illustrating such deeply personal stories is a privilege and responsibility I cherish. As a Pan-African creative woman, bringing visibility to our voices and struggles through art is a calling. Projects like these not only honor our resilience but also amplify the stories that shape the future of girls across the world.
