What are the basic things you need to survive every day? Food? Water? A roof over your head? When Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights, the devil tries to convince him to turn stone into bread. For most of us, this would seem like a no-brainer; if we were starving and could supernaturally turn rock into food, we’d probably jump at the chance. But Jesus refuses and instead teaches Satan—and us—an important lesson on what’s important in life: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4). Jesus wants us to have our basic needs, yes, but he’s concerned with more than just our earthly bodies. He’s concerned with us trusting Him in every aspect of our LIVES, physically and spiritually. When we open our Bibles and dig into God’s Word, we’re nourishing our hearts and learning how to live more like Christ. It’s a practice that should be as ingrained in us as eating and drinking. In Africa, the ODBM Literacy Program is helping children develop this very habit. More than 10,000 students have learned to read English by reading ODBM devotions and biblical resources every day. Did you know that soldiers in Kenya are reading the same devotions as you every day? James Mwangi, assistant provost at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, first encountered “Our Daily Bread” as a kid, and has since grown to not only use the devotions with his family but share them with soldiers in the Kenya Defense Forces. Watch as he shares his testimony, and to learn more about his story, check out our latest blog post! https://lnkd.in/gUBhH72P

What locations come to mind when you think of taking an anniversary trip with a significant other? Maybe you’d love to lounge side by side on the sandy shores of Hawaii, or perhaps you’ve dreamt of setting sail on a Mediterranean cruise. For Chris and Kim Smith, they have a different idea of romance. “Before we were married, we had established in our own lives that serving is what we wanted to do,” said Kim, a 63-year-old administrative assistant. “We felt God leading us there. So as a couple, it was something that we strongly believed in and wanted to continue doing in our married life.” That’s why to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary, they teamed up with Our Daily Bread Ministries (ODBM) Literacy Program to train Christian leaders in South Africa.
