About us

Ricchiuti family story begins with a voyage from Vincenzo Ricchiuti in 1914 – where he would plant the seeds of a family business which would eventually grow for generations. Benefitted by his father’s wisdom, Pat Ricchiuti began his career as a grower, packer, and shipper who aspired to diversify and expand their business. His goal for the newly founded P-R Farms, Inc. in 1956 was to bring forth growth while maintaining quality at every juncture, eventually becoming incorporated in 1963. P-R Farms, Inc. became known worldwide for premium quality peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, apples, citrus, grapes, almonds, and olives. Last week, we had the privilege of joining P-R Farms, Inc. for their annual AgMonitor training session conducted both in English in the office led by Olivier Jerphagnon, and later in Spanish in the field, led by Evan Madrigal. It was truly engaging to witness the dedication of the larger team with the field crew fixing in real-time issues in the irrigation system. It is a reflection of the Ricchiuti family's commitment to apply water efficiently to grow almonds and olives. Sean L., the Irrigation Technology Manager, and hosted the training and Silverio Madrigal, the Operations Manager, led the team of irrigators who work with Ranch Managers on their acreage from Madera to Raisin City. We started with a summary of new features and Marvin Scheidt, the CFO, summarized the different ways the team was able to save money on water: solar ROI optimization, irrigation off-peak, and maintenance of the irrigation system. While we were there to review aerial imagery, the P-R team shared that the notifications from the AgMonitor platform alerted them to areas of plant stress around several of their water pumps. It turns out that due to dirty canal water or missing filters on the sprinkler heads, several of the sprinklers were clogged and not working at all. They also caught a pump with low pressure. They were able to clean the “t-valves” and tuned weekly cadence to flush the lines and keep the sprinklers running smoothly. Alerts like these makes them much more efficient with the water they’re using and able to irrigate more precisely. Sean Lally is using the AgMonitor platform every day through his tablet and calls us his “main tool”. As they grow almonds in several white areas under SGMA, any amount of water savings is not only impactful on reducing their input costs but also applying water at the most critical time and adjusting nitrogen application to get better size of nuts. We believe it is critical that technology is simple enough to boil down data into useful alerts, but also robust enough to provide a “digital twin” of the farm to the field crew to work with the office team to problem solve as necessary. We’re encouraged to see all of the different ways the P-R Farms team is getting value from the tool! Thanks again to Sean Lally and Silverio Madrigal for hosting us in Clovis. Enzo's Table across the street is worth the detour for some refreshing farm-to-table delicacies! #AgTech #PrecisionFarming #FarmLife #AgMonitor
