If you’ve been laid off and are in need of a little boost in vitality, inspiration or confidence while you’re looking for a new position, [P1] Games game jams might be just the thing that gives you back some spark and joy. The magic of working together with a small inspired and enthusiastic team to make a playable demo in just 2 weeks is an incredible energy and brings a lot of good vibes into your space. P1 Games with the exceptional leadership of Samuel Martin is having their next FREE community game jam starting the 10th of July! NO COST INVOLVED. All of the themes are wholesome and altruistic, and this month’s is working together to alleviate hunger. (Link below) P1 was the very first place to give me a chance when I decided to make the transition from senior illustrator in the advertising industry to games back in December, and it was the best training ground I could have ever possibly asked for. I learned what inspiring, authentic and noble leadership looks like, agile frameworks, the power of servant leadership, incredible teamwork collaboration, and how to be a scrum master. I also got a boot camp/crash course in wholistic game development that brought me up to speed so when I applied and interviewed for roles in games (got my first interview two weeks after joining P1), I was very comfortable in my knowledge of processes, pipelines and cross functional collaboration, and the game development space. P1 also got me my first paid game industry project a month after joining, and two other paid contract roles since! For me, everything began and has circled back to P1, and I personally invite anyone wanting to start a new positive and vibrant adventure to join their 7500 member strong Discord and have fun making a playable demo with game developers from around the world. Whether you’re a programmer, game designer, artist, producer or even in indie leadership, there is magical powers to be gained at P1! Here’s to the angels who help us along our path. https://lnkd.in/esbzq-cK

Check out these amazing sound effects by our audio team!

Currently designing sound-effects for a game I'm working on at [P1] Games and I thought I'd just show all the different layers that went into just one sound! Including some random stuff I recorded like a crinkling pasta bag, ripped up cardboard and a tree branch I found (All really useful for sound design!) This sound is for a stone golem, smashing something into the dirt. Imagine all the rocky debris and brushy vegetation that'd be growing off of it as it swings around! #flstudio #sfx #audio #gaming

Hello, I would like to announce an ongoing project that my team and I worked on called Re-Breather. It is an ocean explorer game in which you play as a marine biologist collecting trash and rescuing marine life harmed by pollution. My role is a game designer and programmer, as I helped design and implement the game's mechanics. The link below is the current state of the game. I believe the team decided to continue the development of the game. So look forward to updates. Hope you enjoy it. #gamedev #gamedesign https://lnkd.in/gcjdAvwv

Their team made an incredible game for this cycle. You guys should be super proud!

Game Jam submission day is here! Here's a few gameplay shots from Re-breather, showcasing the first coral reef level I designed and the 3d assets our other 3d artist and myself created for it. It's an ocean exploration/rehabilitation game that's in early development. It allows the player to clean the ocean of trash and debris all while saving any marine life caught in it's wake. Huge shoutout to [P1] Games for opening the opportunity for me to work with such an amazing team, team Oceanus, and gain this valuable experience within Unreal Engine! #leveldesign #gamedesign #indiedev #3DArtist #3DModels #unrealengine

I was working on a rough environment design for our team's game at [P1] Games. It's an underwater ocean exploration game, and we needed to create a level that contains red algae, kelps, trash, and much more. It's still a work in process, but I like the way it's turning out! The models for trash, red algae, and kelp were made by a teammate and myself in Blender, later exported to Unreal, to paint on the landscape created.

What [P1] Games is doing to bridge the world of games and minimize the skills gap in education is truly amazing. I am excited to go beyond what I learned in school and get some practical experience on a team remotely. They are proving people wrong in what so many say can't be done effectively. 🫰

Another helpful tip from Shelley Etto, who helps [P1]ers get jobs!

You - have an extreme lack of confidence in your skillset. I - help you figure out what's wrong with your resume+presentation of yourself in your job search.

"Just lie on your resume!" I saw a user on reddit recommending this to others in a careers subreddit. My response will be downvoted to oblivion, I know....reddit isn't exactly known for its expert advice. Watch where you get your resume advice from, everyone. I don't believe lying is ever necessary. It's usually not people's skillset that keeps them back, it's the not understanding that full skillset in an transportable-across-all-jobs way. Once someone is in that lying mode, it's hard to keep up with, with details about how one got or used those skills, once in an interview it becomes clear that the person is lying or has no clue what they are doing. If they do get the job, imposter syndrome often creeps in which leads directly to job performance issues, which puts them back on the street. Now they have even MORE skills they barely understand and didn't even do well at to add to their resume and the cycle starts all over again! Just figure out what skills you have well and apply for jobs that use those skills plus a few others (so there's room for growth). You're a lot more confident with what you have that way. All of my clients get jobs within 3 months with not one lie on their resume.
