In a recent column for What'sUpNewp, Dr. Michael Fine wrote about how dementia affects both the victims of the disease and their loved ones. He highlighted PACE-RI as one of the best solutions for vulnerable older adults in our Rhode Island. Thank you, Dr. Fine, for helping spread the word about how our comprehensive care helps elders continue to live safely at home! (Dr. Fine is the chief health strategist for the City Of Central Falls, president of Primary Care for All Americans, and former director of the Rhode Island Department of Health.)

A Health Plan for Aging Well
About us
PACE-RI, pace-ri.org, is the non-profit health plan for adults aged 55 and older who want to remain at home while receiving care for complex or chronic health issues. Founded in 2005, PACE-RI provides both insurance and medical care, as well as a range of health and social services that include adult day care, transportation, and meals at sites in East Providence, Woonsocket, Westerly and Newport. Taking a comprehensive approach to well-being, PACE-RI keeps medically complex participants out of nursing homes an average of four additional years as compared to their counterparts living independently without the supports provided by PACE.

We're proud to be a longtime partner with the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center at the University of Rhode Island. We value and share in RIGEC's mission to train health professionals who can address the needs of older adults in our state. Chief of Organizational Performance Liz Boucher was quoted in a recent Providence Business News article about RIGEC—plus, PACE-RI participants and staff are featured in the cover photo of this story! Navid Nickpour—a Master of Public Health Candidate at Brown University School of Public Health—has worked on many impactful projects during her time as an intern at PACE-RI. She surveyed PACE participants to help improve our transportation services and streamline communication with our elderly participants. She also led a project to standardize our internship program so that future interns can have as significant of an experience as she has had at our organization. We're very proud to see her highlighted by the School of Public Health. Click on the link to read more about her inspiring life and her contributions at PACE-RI!
Partnering with local organizations is at the heart of Brown's MPH practicum, and Navid Nickpour's work with the PACE Organization of Rhode Island shows just how impactful that work can be. The Online MPH student says she was inspired to work with underserved communities, including immigrants like herself. “It's more than just filling out a paper," she says. "It’s about making sure they're heard.”

Happy CNA and Homemakers Week! We're thankful for the certified nursing assistants who take care of our older adults in our day centers, in the home, and on our buses. We're thankful for the homemakers who provide company and light housework so our participants can thrive at home. We're grateful to have staff that are amazing at what they do and care deeply for the folks we serve.

At PACE-RI, we believe that everyone deserves respect and dignity as they age, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This is true for the older adults in our program as well the amazing staff who take care of them. We're proud to be a place where people feel safe, comfortable and accepted. Happy Pride Month!

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Kristin Russell, MD, MBA, the Chief Medical Officer at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, for a tour of our East Providence day center. We were impressed by her focus on addressing the behavioral and maternal health disparities in Rhode Island, and enjoyed the opportunity to share about how we can continue to support communities in the Ocean State. We are grateful to our friends at Neighborhood for 30 years of mission-driven work!

We were happy to welcome Director kasim yarn of the Rhode Island Office of Veterans Services to our East Providence day center. Director Yarn spoke with our staff and older adults—including some of the 17 veterans that received PACE care. Show them the center, introduce them to our staff and participants. We were thankful for the opportunity to spend time with Director Yarn and to discuss expanding home and community-based long-term care services to older veterans in our state!

Here's another moment from Mission Month. Board member Marie Ganim visited our Woonsocket day center to help our participants with arts and crafts. Marie chatted with our older adults as she washed paintbrushes, squeezed paint on palettes, and helped make beaded necklaces. "I had a lot of fun. Everyone was enthusiastic," she said. "They were very engaged socially and were highly supportive of each other. It just seemed like a happy place to be!"
