Pacific Science Center (PacSci) — Igniting curiosity for more than 60 years.
About us
Born in the spirit of innovation at the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle, the Pacific Science Center (PacSci) has ignited curiosity for more than 60 years. Since its founding as the nation’s first science and technology center, PacSci has worked to expand access to science, serve as a vital resource for educators, and fuel discovery and experimentation as a vibrant community laboratory. PacSci is an independent, not-for-profit institution that serves nearly 1 million people in the Pacific Northwest and beyond each year.

🌠 Just in time for Halloween, Comet Nishimura, also known as the "Halloween Comet," gave us one last eerie display as it broke apart after flying too close to the Sun. This cosmic event serves as a reminder of the incredible forces at play in our universe and just how delicate comets can be. The Sun's intense heat and gravitational pull were too much for Nishimura, leading to a spectacular breakup that scientists have been closely observing. 📐 Two years ago, high school students Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson from Louisiana created a mathematical marvel: a trigonometric proof of the Pythagorean theorem. Now, they're back with 10 more! For over 2,000 years, mathematicians thought this ancient theorem couldn’t be proven with trigonometry, but these teens have made a breakthrough that could change how we understand mathematical equations! Check out how they did it and the impact it could have on math education: https://lnkd.in/gR25ZkSH #PacificScienceCenter #ScienceNews #Math #Breakthrough #PythagoreanTheorem #YoungScientists #ScienceRocks

Astronomers recently studied a #ZombieStar that survived a supernova explosion, creating a stunning dandelion-shaped remnant! ✨ This white dwarf, located in the nebula Pa 30, erupted around 1,000 years ago but didn’t fully disintegrate. The star remains incredibly hot, lashing out stellar winds at speeds of 36 million mph. Using advanced imaging, researchers have created a 3D model of the explosion, revealing filaments of debris that haven't slowed since the blast. This cosmic horror show fascinates scientists as they continue to explore its mysteries. 🔭 Learn more in this #Space article: https://lnkd.in/gB9_NTTj

Between Baleen - Now Open at Pacific Science Center Be transported into the mouth of a whale with our new art installation! Wander through dense ropes and cork buoys that mimic a whale’s baleen. This art installation was created from marine debris collected off the coast of Alaska—it’s a small percentage of the 45,000 lbs of marine debris collected during clean-up efforts in summer 2023. Designed by Olson Kundig with support and fabrication by Dowbuilt. Included in general admission. #PacificScienceCenter #BetweenBaleen #Art #STEAM #MarineLife #RecycledArt #Sustainability #ScienceRocks
