When Ryan, a disabled Army combat veteran, was rushed to the VA hospital for emergency care, his cherished Great Dane, Selene, had nowhere to go but a shelter. In just a few short weeks, Selene’s health began to decline rapidly, her weight plummeting from 160 to 118 pounds. A compassionate VA hospital staffer reached out to PACT, and we immediately arranged for a foster to rescue Selene from the shelter. But it was heartbreakingly clear she was in critical need of emergency veterinary care—something Ryan simply couldn’t afford. Selene spent time in intensive care, fighting to recover. Thanks to the dedication of her foster family and skilled veterinarians, she’s back on her feet, awaiting a joyful reunion with Ryan. But the cost of saving her life was over $5,000.
