  • On Monday, DGS Secretary Reggie McNeil joined Building and Facilities Management leaders and executive office staff to provide an appreciation lunch for the department’s custodial employees. The event was a chance to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming facilities for employees and visitors alike. Secretary McNeil thanked staff members for their invaluable contributions and emphasized the critical role they play in ensuring the smooth operation of our buildings. Without their tireless efforts, the department’s mission to provide quality service would not be possible. Their professionalism and attention to detail don’t just keep our spaces tidy—they help create a positive environment that enhances productivity and overall well-being for everyone who works here. We’re proud to recognize their efforts and express our sincere gratitude for everything they do each and every day! #TeamDGS #EmployeeAppreciation #ThankYou

  • As part of the Shapiro Administration's commitment to protecting Pennsylvanians' constitutional rights to clean air and pure water, lowering energy costs, and creating energy jobs, the Pennsylvania GreenGov Council today kicked off the Commonwealth's fourth annual Sustainability Week. The Pennsylvania GreenGov Council – co-chaired by the Secretaries of the Departments of General Services, Environmental Protection, and Conservation and Natural Resources – encourages the incorporation of environmentally sustainable practices into the Commonwealth's policy, planning, operations, procurement, and regulatory functions.   To kick off the week, Department of General Services (DGS) Secretary Reggie McNeil and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn signed a new Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) contract with McClure Company, a Harrisburg-based mechanical construction, engineering and energy service firm. The contract represents the third phase of GESA improvements to Pennsylvania's public land infrastructure, focusing on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction across 38 state parks and five forest districts. The initiative is expected to cut emissions by 1,900 tons per year and save the Commonwealth $40.42 million in energy costs over the next two decades. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eMXrpubD

  • A message from Jeff Stackhouse, Bureau of Facilities Management, on National Custodial Worker Day.   Today, October 2nd, marks National Custodial Worker Day - a meaningful opportunity for us to express our gratitude to our dedicated custodial staff at DGS Facilities Management. Their tireless efforts to maintain our buildings’ cleanliness, safety, and readiness do not go unnoticed.   While many of us work in offices or attend meetings, our custodial staff is diligently managing heavy trash bags, mop buckets, and vacuuming, all while ensuring that recycling and waste are handled appropriately. Their roles are crucial, yet the labor-intensive nature of their work poses significant challenges. Custodians often face one of the highest rates of job-related injuries, including slips, falls, and musculoskeletal disorders that can lead to chronic pain affecting both their professional and personal lives.   We want to take this moment to sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable contributions of our custodial team. If you encounter a custodial worker in your building today, please take a moment to thank them for their hard work. A simple expression of appreciation can go a long way in motivating and uplifting our staff, reinforcing the importance of their commitment and sacrifices.   Thank you for joining us in recognizing and honoring our custodial staff today.

  • A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Vail Memorial Hall at Lincoln University was held September 13 following two years of construction. The Vail Memorial Hall capital construction project consisted of approximately 18,000 square feet of new and renovated spaces. The original portion of the existing building was built in 1898 by the noted architect Addison Hutton and underwent a complete, historic renovation. A 1953 addition to the 1898 structure was removed and replaced with a new addition, designed to complement the original portion of the building and the surrounding historic buildings of the North end of the campus. The new construction and the restoration of the historic portions of Vail Hall will accommodate the administrative offices of Lincoln University. Design and construction management for the project was provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services Capital Programs bureau. Thanks to the Bureau of Finance and Risk Management (FARM) contributed time and resources around the procurement of furniture, fixtures and equipment for the project.
