We’re wrapping up our celebration of World Architecture Day 2024 with our final post sharing thoughts and images from several of our rising stars in urban design. The theme for today is “Empowering the Next Generation in Participatory Urban Design” – we hope you’ve enjoyed these glimpses into what drives and inspires our next-gen designers as they plan and develop urban environments that function and serve all members of communities. 👉🏻 “Born and raised in Mumbai and now living in San Francisco, I am continually fascinated by the dialog between architecture and the city. To me, urban design is the language in which that dialog is expressed where the socio-political, cultural, economic, and environmental forces are the syntax for that language. “How a building meets the ground is my favorite problem to solve and the tension in juxtapositions of enclosed/open, figure/ground, built form/spaces-in-between, private/public, make for the most exciting design opportunities in a project of any scale.” Page Urban Designer Aparajita Bhatt-Mehta, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP ND 👈🏻 Based in our San Francisco office, Aparajita is Co-Chair of the AIA San Francisco Urban Design + Infrastructure Committee. #WorldArchitectureDay @uia-org #UrbanDesign #Architecture

In celebration of World Architecture Day 2024 – with its theme of “Empowering the Next Generation in Participatory Urban Design" – we invited a few of our rising stars in urban design to share what drives them in planning and developing urban environments that function and serve all members of communities. Here’s the third in our series of posts today: 👉🏻 “It is crucial that we leverage visuals to represent powerful concepts that can transform campuses and communities. Great diagrams do not only communicate ideas effectively but also serve as inspiration toward their successful implementation.” – Page Urban Designer Sabbir Ahmed, LEED GA 👈🏻 Sabbir works in Page’s Austin office. #WorldArchitectureDay @uia-org #UrbanDesign #Architecture #CampusPlanning

“Empowering the Next Generation in Participatory Urban Design" is the theme of World Architecture Day, October 2, 2024. To celebrate, we invited a few of our rising stars in urban design to share what drives them in planning and developing urban environments that function and serve all members of communities. Second in our series today: 👉🏻 “I see planning as a language of its own—one where we translate aspirations and needs into tangible places and spaces, with no two translations alike. Student life, in particular, provides the opportunity to translate an institution's aspirations and distinct identity into vibrant halls and facilities that promote community and support student success.” – Page Urban Planner Farshid Motian, Associate AIA, LEED GA 👈🏻 Farshid is based in Page/Washington D.C., and leads the office’s career fair initiatives and institutional engagement. #WorldArchitectureDay @uia-org #UrbanDesign #Architecture #StudentLife

We are thrilled that our work at the Jim and Janet Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation has won a Higher Education Design Award from the International Interior Design Association New England Chapter. Partnering with Mithun of Seattle, it was a privilege to bring this project to life for Seattle University. Seeing this transformative building recognized in the competitive category of academic architecture – up against 14 other wonderful projects from our northeast US colleagues – is a true honor! Designed as a vibrant, student-centric hub, the Center fosters interaction among all university students, promoting exploration, collaboration, and experiential learning. The central atrium serves as a focal point, complemented by a dynamic skylight, and transparency is incorporated throughout both interior and exterior to showcase student life and experience. Embracing a future-proof approach, the facility prioritizes flexible, efficient planning, with thoughtfully organized spaces and intuitive wayfinding that creates a feeling of relaxation among users. The Center’s LEED Gold certification reflects a commitment to sustainability with authentic, locally sourced materials that are durable and maintainable. With many thanks and congrats to our client and partners! #HigherEducation #Design #Architecture #AcademicDesign IIDA New England Photography by: Kevin Scott; David Sundberg/Esto
