Mark Rutte officially took on the role of NATO Secretary General at the beginning of October, following a decade of Jens Stoltenberg’s leadership. As Secretary General, Rutte says his approach will focus on three key priorities: strengthening NATO’s defenses, deepening support for Ukraine, and enhancing global partnerships in an interconnected world. At Pallas, we believe strong alliances are critical to global security. Through our Allies and Partners portfolio, we strengthen ties and share technological capabilities to support the transatlantic alliance, aligning with NATO DIANA's (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic) efforts to harness emerging dual-use technologies for enhanced regional security.

Our allies are realizing tech adoption has to happen much faster: Former Advisor to the British Prime Minister and former Royal Air Force officer Keith Dear has written an article, 'Don’t Blink: How the UK Can Take a Lead in the Defence AI Race.' The report underscores the urgency of prioritizing AI adoption in defense strategies, not just for the UK but globally. His insights highlight a critical vulnerability in existing frameworks and emphasize the need for the U.S. Department of Defense to become more competitive amid accelerating AI advancements.

Last week, Pallas hosted our Principals for an update on all three branches of the Pallas enterprise: Advisors, Foundation, and Ventures. Pallas continues to grow, bringing on 5 new full-time employees. Since our last update in April, our Foundation reached the milestone of 75 fellows participating in the program and Ventures completed a 15th investment. We also got to hear our Principals discuss what they have been up to this year across the defense tech ecosystem – from AI and cyber to directed energy and contested logistics. The camaraderie of the event demonstrated why Pallas continues to be one of the best places to work! Here’s to next time!
