In addition to the hazards that are associated with everyday operations, loading flatbed trailers with a forklift presents additional and unique hazards. To minimize the hazards associated with loading a flatbed trailer, the following safety rules have been implemented: • The truck must not be left idling during the loading process. • Loaded stacks will not be higher than the exhaust pipe on the truck or higher than 19 block pallets. • 5 full stacks of pallets must be loaded before the truck driver begins to strap down the first stack. There must be 5 stacks (about 15 feet) between the forklift operations of loading pallets and the driver strapping down the load. • The truck driver must be instructed to maintain at least 15 feet of distance from working forklifts. • Employees and truck drivers must maintain a 15-foot clearance while the pallet stacks on the flatbed are being straightened and condensed by the forklift. • Step decks on flatbed trailers must only be loaded with 3 rows that are no more than 15 high. • NEVER attempt to load a flatbed from a dock door. #safety #workplacesafety #tipoftheweek #flatbed #stayontopofitall

Propane is a clean-burning, high-performing, and cost-effective way to fuel forklifts, but it must be handled properly to ensure safety: -Propane cylinders should only be stored in specified storage tanks and cages. -Forklifts or other powered equipment should not be operated within 25 feet of the storage area. -No smoking within 25 feet of the storage area. -Propane cylinders should be stored with the shut-off valve completely closed at all times, including when on a parked, unattended forklift. -Only employees with current forklift certifications are authorized to exchange propane cylinders. -Proper PPE should be worn when propane tanks are exchanged or refilled. #workplacesafety #safetytips #pallets #forklifts #safetyatwork #propanesafety
