Here’s a look at some behind-the-scenes action from last week’s deployment in Pasco County to help displaced Floridians in the aftermath of Helene and Milton. Thanks to the hard work of the Pallet deployment team to build these emergency shelters and rapidly move people inside to safety.

We are proud to see the agile response from Pasco County and Catholic Charities to open this site and provide critical shelter and support for people displaced from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The Pallet deployment team jumped into action to build these shelters as soon as the site was ready and help move people inside to safety. Many Floridians have lost their homes to these disasters. Responding with urgency and allowing people a safe, private space to recover while housing is rebuilt is exactly what's needed during these times of crisis. And once these displaced individuals and families have regained stability and can move onto more permanent solutions, more unhoused Floridians will be able to access the site's shelter and supportive services. Over the past two decades, research has shown that an overwhelming number of domestic violence survivors experience homelessness at some point in their lives. There are many factors that contribute to this connection. But by expanding trauma-informed programs like emergency shelter and transitional housing as well as increasing access to supportive services tailored to survivors, we can provide impacted individuals and families with the help they need to regain stability and move toward a future of safety and freedom. We are honored to have helped break ground on the City of Albuquerque’s new Recovery Gateway project, which will provide crucial shelter and medical services to help people in recovery from opioid use. This micro-community will be staffed around the clock with and a clinical director and case managers to help residents regain stability and make progress in obtaining permanent housing. These services, along with the emotional support of living within a community focused on active recovery, will make a positive impact for the city’s unhoused population. Thank you to City of Albuquerque staff and everyone involved in this project who worked hard to make this supportive shelter community a reality.

For domestic violence survivors, having access to shelter and housing designed to alleviate past trauma is vital in creating an environment that feels safe and secure. The individual, private space of our shelters—alongside trauma-informed safety features like a locking door with kick plate and peephole—ensure security and peace of mind for individuals and families who have survived domestic violence. #DVAM

The project, referred to as a Navigation Center, includes a variety of sheltering options (from congregate style to safe parking to individual Pallet shelters) to best fit the diverse needs of local communities experiencing homelessness. We are proud to be a part of this collaborative effort helping restore dignity, safety, and stability for Oroville’s unhoused residents. Awesome work by our team in the field!

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of safe and secure housing for survivors of domestic violence. Pallet strongly supports the victim advocates, allied professionals, survivors of abuse, and their loved ones who are dedicated to raising awareness and ultimately ending this epidemic that remains a primary cause of homelessness for women and families. #1Thing #DVAM
