Recently we held a nursing orientation for new nurses and nursing assistants from four of the six facilities that make up the Palm Beach Health Network (PBHN). The attendees from St. Mary's Medical Center, Palm Beach Children's Hospital, Good Samaritan Medical Center and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center received their learning materials in pink folders to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From WPEC-TV CBS12 News: Local nonprofit unveils new state-of-the-art playrooms at Palm Beach Children's Hospital WEST PALM BEACH, Fla — This morning the young patients at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital have a new space where they can go to find a little comfort during an uncomfortable time. Three new state-of-the-art playrooms are now open at the hospital on the St. Mary’s Medical Center campus in West Palm Beach. All children who were cared for in St. Mary’s Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are invited to attend our NICU Reunion on Sunday, November 10th from 1-4pm. Come reunite with the nurses and other staff who provided care for your NICU child. You can also connect with other NICU grads and their families. Thanks to our great partner, Chasin A Dream Foundation, on Friday, October 4th, we opened 3 newly renovated playrooms including this one for our teen patients. These rooms will help kids battling cancer and other illnesses have a place where they can play games, relax and feel normal. The teen room includes video games, air hockey and other engaging activities. It was designed by Michele Ruppert with Bungalow Palm Beach. Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Center is excited to announce the opening of 3 new playrooms for children of all ages. These creative spaces were designed to make hospital stays more comfortable, helping to reduce stress and anxiety by providing a place where kids can relax and just be kids. For younger children, this submarine-themed room filled with bright colors, soothing ocean sounds and engaging toys brings an underwater adventure to life. Meghan Crowley and Katie Shobel with Studio Riverside, designed the room and artist Niki Yetman with A Painted Peace by Niki Yetman, provided the artwork. We appreciate these amazing designers and Lori Griffith, Founder and Executive Director of Chasin A Dream Foundation, who made this all possible. The Jared Box Project was started to honor a brave boy, who lost his battle with cancer, Jared. Jared would carry a backpack full of toys to all his doctor’s appointments and share with anyone who didn’t have their own. Now, for more than 20 years Jared Boxes have delivered smiles, laughter and hope to children in hospitals across the country. They are a way for schools and other organizations to bring the gift of play through toys in a box to young patients as they navigate through their hospital experience. Thank you to the students and teachers from Manatee Elementary School who donated over 100 Jared Boxes to the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital.
