  • “If symptoms persist, so should you.” During Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, entertainment host Maria Menounos, opens up about her experience being diagnosed with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. Maria was diagnosed at an early stage, thanks in part to her relentless pursuit of answers when she began to have gastrointestinal issues. Early detection of pancreatic cancer can save your life. 💜 Learn more at pancan.org/awareness #PanCANawareness

  • November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month! 🎗💜 Change the course of this disease by raising awareness about the importance of early detection! Today, there is no standard test like a mammogram or colonoscopy to find #pancreaticcancer early in the general population, but early detection is critical to increasing survival. Know the signs and symptoms, know your risk and know your family history — it can save your life. Learn more at pancan.org/awareness #PanCANawareness

  • PanCAN Scientific Summit is an annual event that brings together #pancreaticcancer researchers, healthcare professionals and patient research advocates in a welcoming space allowing them to connect with others fighting this disease, share data and ideas, learn about breakthroughs in the field, and find opportunities to work together to move progress along faster. 🔬🧪 💜 Read our Chief Scientific & Medical Officer, Dr. Anna Berkenblit's, recap of this year's event at http://pcan.at/469jqt.

  • Allan Jay and Marilyn Myrow were known in their community as helpers and doers — always happy to assist a neighbor, friend or even a stranger. 💜 One night after dinner out, Marilyn remembers, Allan had felt ill and was in terrible pain. The next morning, an ultrasound revealed a mass on Allan’s pancreas. He was quickly referred to a top surgeon near their home and had the Whipple surgery to remove the tumor. Although Allan had complications post-surgery, he didn’t need further treatment for cancer at the time. But eight-and-a-half years later, pancreatic cancer was back. Allan met with an oncologist and started chemotherapy but unfortunately, it was not effective. Allan and Marilyn were married for 29 years before he passed from #pancreaticcancer in 1999. When Allan passed in 1999, PanCAN was a newly formed organization where pancreatic cancer patients and loved ones could find information, resources and hope. Always the helper, Marilyn turned to us not for support, but to give support. Marilyn is the longest-serving #PanCANvolunteer in the Rhode Island Affiliate and has made an annual donation to PanCAN every single year since it was founded. She says, “I feel strongly that if I can’t spend money to honor the most important person in my life, all the money in the world means nothing,” she said. “We want a cure for pancreatic cancer,” she continues. “Losing my husband was a horrible experience and I want to find some sense of meaning in that. Being a part of PanCAN has meant that I’ve met so many people from different parts of the country, all with the same passion. They are wonderful people that I never would have met otherwise.” Marilyn is certain Allan would be pleased with her part in progress for pancreatic cancer. “I think he would be very happy and proud,” she said. “Everything I do is because of Allan.” Thank you, Marilyn. 💜 Read their full story: http://pcan.at/cpl8ys

  • Taylor O'Hanlon lost her mother, Lenore, just a few short months ago to #pancreaticcancer. 💜 In the midst of grieving, she was inspired to gather her community together to honor her mom with a 5K event. 🏃 Taylor says, "I was inspired by my mom's fight. She fought stage 3 and 4 pancreatic cancer for 18 months and her ability to stay so strong during this fight was admirable." Nearly 400 community members came out for the Purple Hope 5K, including Senator Howard Pearl from New Hampshire who spoke to the crowd and a pet adoption center that arrived with puppies to comfort. Many employees from Novocure, where Lenore was the Senior Director of Human Resources, were in attendance as well. Taylor says a highlight for her was seeing so many people gathered in her mother's honor. Taylor raised over $25,000 (and counting!) to support patients touched by this disease. Thank you, Taylor, for honoring your mother in such a beautiful and profound way. 💜 Create a fundraiser of your own like Taylor at pancan.org/diy.
