It was an absolute joy to represent Paradigm Rehab at the "Moving Day for Parkinson's" event this weekend! The energy and resilience on display were truly remarkable. I had the privilege of meeting so many incredible individuals and hearing their unique stories from people within the Parkinson's community. From patients and caregivers to healthcare professionals and advocates, everyone came together with a shared purpose. Children who are non-verbal or struggle with communication can greatly benefit from therapy. Common reasons for referral include difficulty pronouncing words, being hard to understand, and challenges in comprehending language. Speech therapists work with children to strengthen their speech muscles, improving articulation, fluency, and the quality and volume of their speech. This can also enhance swallowing and chewing skills, which is particularly beneficial for children with feeding issues. In addition to speech, therapists focus on language expression and appropriate social interactions, helping children, especially those with autism, navigate social cues and emotional connections. Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) are responsible for so much more than speech, they address a variety of communication challenges that can significantly impact for example, seniors’ daily lives. Some things they assist with is cognitive communication, helping seniors enhance memory, organization, and problem-solving skills, which are vital for effective communication and daily functioning. Additionally, improving communication skills allows seniors to engage more meaningfully in social settings, fostering connections that are essential for emotional well-being. SLPs also play a crucial role in addressing swallowing difficulties and enhancing voice clarity, both of which are important for overall health and quality of life.
