Ready to level up your LinkedIn game? Check out these expert tips from Paragon’s VP of Recruiting, Shannon Murphy, on how to "look alive" and boost your chances of landing that dream role 👇 As a kid, my dad always used the phrase “look alive” with me and my brothers. Be ready for the catch, sit up straight before the test, pay attention to what’s coming your way, give the new boss a firm handshake, and always be scoping for something unexpectedly great. [Also, stop goofing off during mass, tuck your shirt in, and clean your room faster.] So, my advice to anyone trying to leverage LinkedIn for a job search is to “look alive.” 👩🏼💼 Have a recent photo that’s clear and only of you 📝 Put some substance below your job title so we know what you’re doing in your current role 📤 Check your InMail frequently and respond in a timely manner 🗣 Engage with the people whose radar you want to be on When recruiters are considering reaching out to you on this platform, they are always scoping your profile to assess the likelihood of response and interest. Look ready, and you’re sure to increase your opportunities. #RecruitingTipTuesday #ParagonLegal #Recruiting #JobSearch #Careers #CareerDevelopment #FlexibleLegalTalent

I learned all about the Xoogler, the Loogler, and obviously the Doogler last night! Now is is Loogler Xoogler or Xoogler Loogler with a Doogler? A forever thank you to Mary O'Carroll for including us and Paragon Legal in the amazing Xoogler LLP first alumni day-palooza (I don’t remember the exact name). It was inspring to see so many old friends reuniting and catching up like no time has past. And people flying in from all over (even China) to attend! It’s a culture and a feeling like none other. And the number of absolute legal powerhouses that came from Google — well hot damn! And obviously special shout out to Trista Engel’s purple jumper. 10/10. #legalops #inhousecounsel

The $2500/hr+ articles and posts about them (mine included) are mainly clickbait. But I’m excited to when that day really comes. For those articles, there’s a serious case of cherry-picking. Do partner rates for corporate bankruptcies represent what most in-house teams are seeing? No. Kevin Cohn somewhere on here commented that these articles are mostly noise, especially after Brightflag’s rate study of thousands of rates across the US didn’t highlight the same finding. But I am not sarcastic or facetious when I say I am really looking forward to the day when law firm partners are charging $2500/hr and more. Why? Because I agree with Alex Su that those with extremely high rates should be highly specialized and they’re probably undercharging relative to the value they provide. I’d take Alex’s point a bit further and say not only is it warranted to pay high rates for high liability matters. But those high liability matters also have a high probability. When you have both high risk & high probability, legal fees are an afterthought. The issue is that that is not where we are today. The issue is the $1200-1700/hr partner that maybe isn’t delivering the highly specialized work/high risk. Or isn’t working on matters that have a high probability of negative value. The bet I am making at Paragon Legal and I think all of those new entrants in the flex legal space is that this will continue to change and in-house teams will continue to choose alternatives to law firms when the risk & probability profile makes sense. The whole premise of rightsourcing. So then what’s left at the law firm? The truly specialized, high value, command-nearly-any-price work. The $2500/hr partners, the $3000/hr. And when I’m in a true jam, where it’s all on the line, that’s when I make that call to my law firm. And when it’s all over, I’m hoping to feel like they didn’t charge me enough. #legal #legalops #inhousecounsel

Does your new hire need to be onsite? You know you need to hire someone; there’s too much work and too little time. But hiring is more work by itself. You need to sort through applications, discard those from too far away, do several rounds of interviews—by the time you’re through, it can make you feel as if it would have been easier to just deal with the overload of work. Before you go through all that, take a moment to consider whether a remote or hybrid hire makes more sense for you. Many roles can be performed remotely as easily as they can in the office, particularly if you already have a robust chat client (like Slack) set up. And hiring remotely expands your applicant pool dramatically, ensuring that you’ll have a better chance to find the perfect candidate than if you hired locally. Interim hiring can help fill the gap while you’re going through the hiring process. You’ll be able to get someone in the position much sooner, which will give you the time to work through the hiring process for your permanent employee. Don’t settle for a “good enough” hire for your business. Use flexible legal talent to give you the breathing room you need until you find the right fit. Read our new article from Reza Mansouri, Esq. to learn more: https://lnkd.in/e6TvD3jg #LegalHiring #Remote #Hybrid #Onsite #FlexibleLegalTalent

Looking to stand out when messaging recruiters on LinkedIn? Discover how to showcase your strengths and dodge common mistakes in today’s #RecruitingTipTuesday with Michael Witcoskie 👇 Messaging a recruiter or a hiring manager on LinkedIn can definitely make you stand out from the crowd. But if done the wrong way, it can move you to the rejected status. There are some ways to reach out that will truly make you appeal to your intended audience. When someone messages me and tells me exactly why they are a good fit, it helps me understand their fit for the role. Saying, “I believe I am a good fit for the Product Counsel job you posted,” doesn’t help me put the pieces together. “Although I did not carry the product counsel title, in my last two roles, I interacted weekly with engineers and product developers all along the product development cycle to ensure that the products go to market in a compliant nature,” descriptively tells me something about your experience that is relevant to the job. Obviously, you don’t want to bombard someone in an In-Mail message with all your relevant experience. When you hit the main function of the job or the part that might be hard to find in the market, that will be noted. If you have worked for a competitor or similar company in another industry, referencing that can spark interest. ***On another note, in your resume, you should have a short one-sentence description of your company unless it’s a name brand everyone knows. “I worked for Acme Corporation, a direct competitor of Spacely Space Sprockets, where I handled the commercial transactions. I know I could hit the ground running as I understand the intricacies of the business.” Asking if someone thinks you are a good fit for a job leads with negativity rather than a positive statement of how I am a good fit. In your first or even second interaction with a recruiter, especially a hiring manager, they will not truly know your skill set, so your message needs to address why you are a good fit based on the job description. In your message to the recruiter or hiring manager after applying for the job, being specific about the reason why you are a fit can set you apart and help the recruiter see your applicable skill set. #RecruitingTipTuesday #ParagonLegal #Recruiting #JobSearch #Careers #CareerDevelopment #FlexibleLegalTalent
