ParentChild+’s recent expansion to Baltimore is in the news! Check out the Baltimore Banner piece linked below featuring our partnership with New Song Community Learning Center. ➕ As Trenae Phillips-Davis, one of two newly hired Early Learning Specialists put it, “Nobody knows the child better than the parent. You’re giving them the tools so that they can lead the child and support the child.” ➕ With parents and caregivers leading the way, Ms. Phillips-Davis and the rest of the home visiting staff will be visiting homes twice a week. During visits, staff will coach parents and caregivers in preparing their children for success in school. ➕ We can’t wait to start on the path to possibility together! ➕ https://lnkd.in/eMKNC4PC ➕ ➕ ➕ #ParentChildPlus #HomeVisitingWorks #InvestInFamilies ➕ Catholic Charities of Baltimore Jayson Jarual Green Malkia Singleton Ofori-Agyekum

About us
ParentChild+ uses education to break the cycle of poverty for under-resourced families with young children. Through an international network of program sites, ParentChild+ works one-on-one with families and with family child care providers to ensure children achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Our dual models enable the Program to blanket underserved communities with school readiness supports and reach families with children four and under who would otherwise not be ready for school. Highly trained early learning specialists engage families and FCC providers by modeling reading, conversation, and play activities. Through one-on-one visits to families and visits to providers and children in home-based care settings, ParentChild+ builds opportunities for the most vulnerable children and families. Since 1965, ParentChild+ has been assisting underserved communities in replicating and expanding these proven models, setting children on the road to school and life success and strengthening families, providers and communities. "FFN care can be everyday or once a week or once a month, but it is always a community of additional adults who support, nourish, and love children and their parents.” ➕ Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) care is about community meeting the needs of children and their families! ➕ Our CEO Sarah Walzer reflects on the importance of FFN care, “As a brand new grandparent, I am already seeing the value that FFN care can bring to young children and their parents. It is a critical circle of care that wraps around a family – grandparents, aunts, uncles, people who parents trust.” No parent can do it alone, and that’s why #ffncareisalwaysthere ➕ Our Home-Based Child Care Model supports FFN caregivers by sharing information and resources, providing coaching, building networks, and supporting school readiness for children and families. "She was a source of safety and security. I can feel it right now, that warmth of being with Ms. Irene. When I go to observe providers, I am looking for that same feeling. That's my indicator of quality.” ➕ ParentChild+'s Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Malkia Singleton Ofori-Agyekum reflects about her experience growing up in Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) care with Ms. Irene. Ms. Irene lived in Malkia’s neighborhood and took care of her before she started preschool. ➕ Malkia added, "when I think about my career choices, and especially now working at ParentChild+ and having the opportunity to work with FFN providers, it's no mystery that this is the work I ended up in given my early experiences," and we couldn't be more grateful to Ms. Irene for that! ➕ As an organization we are also grateful to support the countless adults taking care of children at home through our Family and Home Based Child Care models. It is our privilege to make sure they start life with possibilities. ➕ ➕ ➕ ➕ ➕ Home Grown #FFNCareIsAlwaysThere #AllGrownUpWithFFN #ParentChildPlus #EarlyChildhoodEducation #SchoolReadiness

Thank you to the The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program - NYC and The Pinkerton Foundation for hosting the Reads Retreat in NYC! Our NY ParentChild+ Director, Andre Eaton, attended the retreat and spoke on a panel about family engagement strategies. For Andre, "strong family engagement happens when families have a primary and meaningful role in all decision-making that impacts every young person and their families." ParentChild+ is proud to work alongside all caregivers to define + pursue positive outcomes for themselves and the children in their care. #ParentChildPlus #EarlyChildhood #HomeVisitingWorks #InvestInKids #FamilyEngagement #SchoolReadiness

Early investment in children makes good sense. According to University of Chicago Economics Professor James J. Heckman, home visiting programs like ours "warrants more investment" because it supports both the child and their family and sets them up for success. Thanks to Represenative Adriano Espaillat for supporting our appropriations request to expand our work in New York! With his support, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer have recommended ParentChild+ for funding by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

On behalf of our New York ParentChild+ sites, a big thank you to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand + Senator Chuck Schumer for recommending our Home-Based Child Care model for funding from the Senate Appropriations Committee! We are honored to be on the list for consideration and grateful for your support. Our Home-Based Child Care model supports child care providers caring for multiple children in their homes with 48 home visits over 24 weeks. Early Learning Specialists bring books, learning materials and ideas. Together with providers they set goals, reflect on their work, and build skills. Providers enhance their support for families and for children's school readiness now and in the future.

We at ParentChild+ wish you a wonderful Fourth of July! The fight for American Independence was both rich and complex, involving not only the pursuit of liberty but also the perpetuation of structural violence and oppression. For this reason, we honor not only America’s founding fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, but also the voices they often ignored and marginalized. These voices include those of indigenous nations people, enslaved people, coerced laborers, migrants, and marginalized gender identities, whose perspectives and strivings equally shaped the world-renowned spirit of American freedom. We at ParentChild+ celebrate our freedom to read and learn about ourselves and our collective histories. Happy Fourth of July! #IndependenceDay #4thOfJuly
