On Tuesday, 📣September 17, 2024📣, thousands of policy advocates across the country will virtually rally together to urge elected officials to take steps to better understand and address environmental risk factors for Parkinson’s disease and atypical parkinsonisms. Led by the Unified Parkinson’s Advocacy Council, the Parkinson’s National Day of Action is entirely virtual, and it only takes a few minutes to participate! On September 17, participants in the National Day of Action will: 1. 🖋Sign a petition to the White House urging them to ban paraquat, a harmful herbicide thought to increase Parkinson’s risk by as much as 500 percent. https://lnkd.in/efnyAzAc 2. 📨 Send an email to Congress to ask them to cosponsor the HEALTHY BRAINS Act (H.R. 9233), a new bill that would direct the federal government to research environmental risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. https://lnkd.in/eXZPUBp4 More than 1 million Americans live with Parkinson’s, the second most common and fastest growing neurological disease. 🧠 The good news? You can help us get closer to a cure by participating in the Parkinson’s National Day of Action! 💪 #Act4PD #parkinsons #parkinsonsdisease #parkinsonsawareness #parkinsonscommunity #parkinsonsadvocacy #EndParkinsons

Third party fundraisers are a great way to put your personal spin on raising awareness and funds for a cause that means something to you. Last weekend, a local high schooler hosted a fundraising event in Zelienople that raised over $3,000 for PFWPA. Addison Winkle used her senior high school project as an opportunity to give back. Her grandfather has Parkinson's disease (PD) and is involved with PFWPA's exercise classes. Addison is a softball player and combined her passion for the sport with her connection to PD that formed the Slow Pitch Softball Tournament fundraiser! Addison created flyers and t-shirts, coordinated the teams, had raffle baskets, and concessions. It was a the perfect combination of purpose and community....and some friendly competition! Thank you, Addison for all of your efforts! Are you interested in creating a third party fundraiser for PFWPA? If so, contact ➡️ info@pfwpa.com to learn more and get started! #parkinsonscommunity #parkinsonsawareness #parkinsonsdisease #parkinsonssupport #pfwpa #pittsburgh

BIG NEWS! Last week, President Biden signed ✒️ The National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act! This is the first-ever federal legislation dedicated to ending Parkinson’s disease (PD). https://lnkd.in/ebNCB4mu This landmark bill has the potential to revolutionize the lives of the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s. It is designed to: - Dramatically increase federal research funding - Develop more effective pathways for treatments and cures - Improve early diagnosis - Spark new and improved models for patient care - Create standards and measures to prevent Parkinson’s disease - Address health disparities in diagnosis, treatment, and clinical trial participation - Enhance public awareness of the disease The passing of this act represents a giant leap forward in the battle against Parkinson’s, bringing hope and concrete action to those affected by the disease. This bill passed thanks to the combined efforts of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the Unified Parkinson's Advocacy Council (which PFWPA is a proud member of), and the greater PD community in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. ➡️Read the Senate bill (S.1064): https://lnkd.in/eiEPuKny ➡️Read the House bill (H.R.2365): https://lnkd.in/exKdmrMf ⚡️Get more involved with Parkinson's Advocacy. We had a fantastic turnout for our Car Cruise today! Ninety Four classic cars showed up! Yes! 94!!! 😳🙌 The community all raved about how delicious our pulled pork sandwhiches were, that our in house chef Marc Vaccaro made. I will admit, he really is pretty amazing! We had great music, Rita’s Italian ice, a Hot Dog stand, beautiful weather and a ton of laughs and smiles! Thank you so much to all of our amazing vendors and friends for donating so many great gift baskets for our raffle. We raised a little over $1,000.00 for the Parkinson’s Foundation.
