The Indiana Chamber of Commerce celebrated Parkview Health as the 2024 Jackson Lewis Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion at its annual DEI Summit on Tuesday at the Ritz Charles in Carmel. The statewide honor recognizes an organization making ardent strides to become a more equitable workplace. Parkview, a Fort Wayne-based healthcare provider with 14 hospitals and 200 provider offices serving northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, embodies that ideal in its culture, says Indiana Chamber President and CEO Vanessa Green Sinders. “Parkview was one of the first companies in Indiana to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, and it has continued full speed ahead with initiatives to diversify and offer programs for underrepresented employee groups within its hospitals and other facilities as well as for the clients the organization serves,” she offers. “At Parkview, it goes far beyond forming a mission statement around diversity; it’s about truly bringing everyone to the table, giving them a voice and taking action to ensure equity and inclusion across its vast healthcare operation.” Tina Dukandar, an associate in the Indianapolis office of Jackson Lewis, says there were many “great companies” up for the DEI award this year. She adds that DEI initiatives continue to accelerate and expand at various organizations across the state and that was evident in this year’s pool of nominees up for the award. Parkview has many initiatives to ensure that DEI is woven throughout its culture, Dukandar notes. Parkview was set apart because company officials recognized that “DEI initiatives are not a one-size-fits-all,” says Dukandar, who was on the Jackson Lewis DEI Champion selection committee. “To best serve their diverse workforce and patients, they implemented various initiatives.” For example, Dukandar points out that Parkview has a dedicated DEI recruitment specialist who focuses on building strategic relationships to attract a diverse workforce. “They (also) established several Co-worker Resource Groups, which include groups for faith and belief, veterans and working mothers,” she adds. “These groups provide employees with a platform to connect, share experiences and support each other, fostering a sense of community and belonging. These are just a very few of the initiatives from Parkview Health.” Read the full feature: https://bit.ly/3Yjroxk

Yesterday, Parkview welcomed nearly 200 high school juniors and seniors to “Launch Day,” a new event created by Parkview Education Services to help high school juniors and seniors prepare for graduation, higher education and a career. Students began their day learning from Parkview HR teams on emotional intelligence, resume and interview tips, and steps to map out their career path. They were also able to meet with the admissions teams from local colleges and universities. Some students continued the day with job shadows at Parkview hospitals, outpatient centers and PPG offices. Thank you to the 21 schools across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio who sent students to this opportunity. We look forward to welcoming even more students and schools next year!

This week, Parkview’s university recruitment team had an incredible time welcoming Huntington University’s very first Accelerated BSN cohort! In partnership with the Questa Education Foundation, we rolled out the red carpet for these future nurses with a special appreciation day, celebrating their commitment to healthcare and their upcoming transition into practice at Parkview Health.   We couldn’t be more thrilled to have them join the Parkview family.

Parkview Health has been named among the Top. 10 Most Loved Workplaces in America according to Newsweek. It’s the second consecutive year Parkview has made Newsweek’s Top 200, jumping to No. 7 overall this year from No. 87 in 2023. Parkview was one of only two Indiana companies to make this year’s list. The 2024 Top 200 Most Loved Workplaces® are the result of a collaboration with the Best Practice Institute (BPI), a leadership development and benchmark research company. BPI previously recognized Parkview on its own Most Loved Workplaces list in August, as well as identified Parkview as a top workplace for women, diversity, career advancement, parents and caregivers, volunteering, wellness and young professionals. The results for this year’s Newsweek list were determined after surveying more than 2.6 million employees from businesses with workforces varying in size from less than 50 to more than 10,000. The list recognizes companies that put respect, caring, and appreciation for their employees at the center of their business model and, in doing so, have earned the loyalty and respect of the people who work for them. “Our commitment to excellence in serving our patients, our co-workers and our communities is reflected in this great honor from Newsweek,” said Rick Henvey, CEO, Parkview Health. “When our co-workers feel valued and loved, that positive attitude, enthusiasm and engagement is projected forward into the care they provide, ensuring excellent care for every person, every day. “Being named within the nation’s Top 10 Most Loved Workplaces is a testament to the strong culture we’ve established at Parkview,” said Dena Jacquay, chief administrative officer, Parkview Health. “When we listen to our co-workers, we build and evolve in response to their needs and address areas of concern that are most important to them. As part of this growing organization, and as a state leader in quality, patient experience and our culture, Parkview takes being a best employer very seriously.” Parkview goes above and beyond to provide for and support its co-workers, with a wide suite of benefits and perks. Parkview offers a quarterly “lifestyle benefit” stipend co-workers can use to make personal purchases of their choosing; provides additional time off for volunteering or mental health days; operates a nationally recognized wellbeing department with a variety of services and events to support physical and mental health. Companies were evaluated and scored based on direct employee responses to BPI's Love of Workplace Index® assessment, from BPI’s direct interviews and written responses with company officials and from analysis of external public ratings from sites such as Comparably, Careerbliss, Glassdoor, Indeed and Google. Newsweek then conducted editorial research on every company before the final list of 200 companies and their rankings was completed. See more: https://bit.ly/3Y7fwyj

On Saturday, more than 236 walkers and volunteers, including Parkview co-workers, community members and representatives from local organizations, came together at Bellmont High in Decatur for the annual Suicide Awareness Walk sponsored by Parkview Behavioral Health Institute (PBHI) – Park Center. The event included a 1-mile walk around the track and an eco-friendly "balloon launch" in which participants decorated paper cutouts with names of lost loved ones and uplifting messages, serving as an ongoing reminder of the event's message: No one is alone because help is available 24/7. Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can reach out to the PBHI HelpLine at 260-471-9440 (or 800-284-8439 toll-free) 24/7 for information on behavioral health services, or call or text 988 to reach mental health professionals via the nationwide 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Congratulations, Lorenzo Manquero, for being named one of Becker's Healthcare's “63 Hispanic and Latino leaders to know” in the Emergency Leaders category!    Lorenzo, director of risk management at Parkview Health, leads a team focused on improving patient and co-worker safety across the system’s 14 hospitals and 300 physician offices. Specializing in system-level risk management, Lorenzo analyzes processes contributing to errors, aiming to prevent future harm by addressing systemic issues rather than individual mistakes. He has been instrumental in increasing safety event reporting, doubling reports from 14,000 to 28,000 annually, and developing real-time dashboards to track incidents like falls and pressure injuries. His efforts have led to improved training, education and predictive modeling to identify emerging safety risks. As a member of Parkview’s DEI advisory council, Lorenzo also advocated for enhanced communication tools to better serve non-English-speaking patients, particularly Fort Wayne’s large Burmese community, further advancing safety and inclusivity.
