Tight Capacity and High Costs Hit Asia's Airfreight Peak Season Significant disruptions and congestion are impacting logistics out of Asia, including the following: 1. Capacity Constraints: Congestion and limited capacity are major issues at origin and transit points in Asia, with premium rates required to secure space, especially from China. 2. High Demand Drivers: Large e-commerce firms and consumer electronics shipments are driving up demand, further tightening capacity. 3. Regional Impact: South-east Asia, including Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore, is particularly affected, with backlogs, increased transit times, and rising rates. 4. Rate Increases: Airfreight rates from Asia to North America and Europe are expected to remain high, with further increases likely out of China and South-east Asia. 5. Ocean Freight Issues: Ocean freight is also facing challenges, with congestion at Manila port, limited container availability, and tight capacity out of Thailand during its peak export season.
