Today is National Mule Day! The day was established to commemorate the day in 1785 when a donkey arrived in Boston harbor as a gift from King Charles III of Spain to George Washington so he could start a mule breeding program. At the time, Spanish donkeys were considered the most superior in the world and were illegal to export without royal exemption.

National Make a Difference Day is a community service event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of October each year. The day was created in 1992 by USA Weekend magazine and Points of Light, and its purpose is to encourage people to contribute their time, resources, and skills to make a positive difference in their communities!
