Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects approximately 850 million people worldwide and is projected to become the fifth leading cause of years of life lost by 2040. Yet, awareness remains alarmingly low, with fewer than 10% of people with CKD aware of their condition. As we look back on World Kidney Day, we emphasize the importance of #EarlyDetection and prevention. If left undiagnosed, CKD can lead to kidney failure, severe complications, and premature mortality. Targeted screening for high-risk populations, such as individuals with hypertension and diabetes, is crucial for reducing the burden of this disease. In Ghana, initiatives like AstraZeneca’s Healthy Heart Africa (HHA), in collaboration with PATH and the Ghana Kidney Association, are making strides in kidney health by implementing screening programs and advocating for stronger health care interventions. With over 25,000 patients screened, the effort to integrate kidney care into primary health services is gaining momentum. Rwanda and Senegal have just completed CKD assessments, paving the way for the current Healthy Heart Africa programming on hypertension to expand to include CKD care. Let’s work together to raise awareness, encourage early screening, and promote #KidneyHealth globally! #WorldKidneyDay Ghana Health Service Otieno Nelson Robert Kwabena Yeboah Helen McGuire Amy Flores Dempsey Margaret Kigwe Imran Rasheed MD, MBBS, MBA

We have a new tutorial video for our #rotavirus and #pneumococcal Vaccine Cost Calculators for Middle-Income Countries! These Excel-based tools offer an easy way to compare the costs of certain vaccination programs with each vaccine product available in the global market. Designed specifically for middle-income countries, the calculators allow decision-makers, implementers, and technical assistance partners to input local data and compare estimated program costs for different vaccine products and presentations, exploring multiple vaccine options at once. 🎬 This 6-minute orientation to the tools is available in English, French, and Spanish: https://bit.ly/3XUDvAf #VaccinesWork

As we look toward the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health this fall, what actions can we take to equitably and sustainably address the global #NCD burden #FromInnovationToAccess? IFPMA launched its call to action on NCDs this week, urging countries to prioritize 4 policy measures: 1. Enable innovation by fostering a healthy ecosystem for innovative medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, and medical devices that address the global NCD and #MentalHealth burden. 2. Mobilize investment by committing to efficient, actionable financing plans that enable more equitable access to essential services and commodities. 3. Drive implementation by integrating early screening, diagnosis, vaccination, treatment, and rehabilitation programs into national #PrimaryHealthCare systems. 4. Ensure accountability by implementing measures to accurately report on the delivery of NCD and mental health prevention, treatment, and care. 📰 Learn more about the launch event and priorities in Health Policy Watch: https://bit.ly/3XNafeD 📂 Read the full IFPMA report: https://bit.ly/4hv1hd3 Coalition for Access to NCD Medicines & Products Kimberly Green

It’s a critical time for the #GlobalHealth sector, but PATH is ready to meet this moment to protect decades of progress and to drive action that ensures everyone, everywhere, can access the health care they need. Today, we’re launching our new Center for Advocacy and Policy. With nearly 50 years of experience under our belt—influencing more than 158 policies and helping mobilize funding in 150 government budget lines since 2018 alone—we know how to drive meaningful, sustainable change through policy. Here’s how we do it: 💡 Acting as a policy lab, we generate and translate evidence into innovative policy solutions. 📈 Our team of experts turns their deep understanding of how change happens in a place into an advocacy impact accelerator, driving decision-maker action by executing winning policy-influencing strategies. 📣 We take on a role as a field catalyst—connecting changemakers, mobilizing key players, and bridging critical gaps—so that movements for change are greater than the sum of their parts. 💡 Can AI support health care workers in delivering better care? In Nairobi, Kenya, clinicians are already using an AI-enabled tool to support diagnosis and manage patient care more efficiently. 🚀 Now, PATH and our partners are launching a groundbreaking clinical trial to evaluate whether AI-powered decision support can improve patient outcomes, reduce misdiagnoses, and enhance clinician workflows in real-world health care settings. This study will rigorously assess AI’s role in supporting health care workers—because innovation must be tested, evidence-based, and built to empower, not replace, clinicians. 🎥 PATH's Monica Georges, PhD speaks with clinicians at Penda Health about how AI and human expertise work together to improve care—making it smarter, faster, and more equitable. 📍 Learn more about how this trial is generating critical evidence on AI in health care: https://bit.ly/43GYzhg Kenya Paediatric Research Consortium - Keprecon University of Birmingham #AIForHealth #HealthInnovation #DigitalHealth
