What do Dolphin Imaging, a Patterson president, and Keith Moon of The Who have in common? Well, not much, other than helping spawn the rock-inspired cover band Last Call, a creative musical outlet for two Patterson employees. Ken Gladstone, senior software engineering manager at Dolphin Imaging, is the drummer for Last Call. “We Dolphin partners sold to Patterson in December 2008, and that’s how I first met Patterson Regional Director Paul Guggenheim. Dolphin President Chester Wang, Paul and I formed a trio cover band. The three of us had grown up within a few miles of each other, we are all about the same age, and we have similar musical tastes,” Gladstone said. Bonding over a love of Rush, Led Zeppelin and The Police, the band’s first proper performance was playing at a Dolphin company retreat, a gig Gladstone jokingly described as perfect due to the staff being “contractually obligated to like us!” COVID through a wrench in their plans to go platinum though, and the group had to get creative with their practice sessions. They would play at their keyboard player's backyard or in a garage. They've since gone to play at amphitheaters, car shows, concert halls and more! You can learn more about Last Call below, including upcoming shows, recordings and more. Maybe a battle of the bands is in order... One way we ensure you work with the best experts in the business is by hiring employees with hands-on dental and animal health experience. Chris Weaver has over 15 years of experience in the vet industry, seven of which were spent as a vet tech in Phoenix, Arizona. Chris' passion for his work is personal. “I got into vet med because I love dogs. I’ve always wanted to work with dogs and work in the industry. I found a way to do that that not only helps the pets – the dogs get the care that they need – but also educates vets, improves the industry and allows more high-quality care to get into more facilities.” Since joining Patterson Veterinary Supply, Chris has helped grow our equipment offerings to fit any need. “We now have five vendors, which make up about 30 or 40 different CTs and another dozen MRIs and probably another dozen fluoroscopy units. So, the options for our customers are virtually limitless. It’s not about selling one system and pushing it into each clinic, but about finding the system that’s best for them. So, it really fits more of our business model of serving our customers.” And it’s all for a love of dogs. “I am telling you I love them,” Chris said. “I’ve always loved them. I grew up with them, I’ve wanted to work with them since I was a kid and it’s just great.” #WeArePatterson

September 21, 1877: The day we were founded. Did you know Patterson Companies was led by the Patterson family for more than 100 years? Patterson’s long history of exemplary customer service and trusted expertise dates back to September 21, 1877, when brothers M.F. Patterson and J.G. Patterson established a store in Milwaukee. They carried an extensive stock of medicine, surgical instruments and dentists’ materials. Myron Fayette (M.F.) saw a future in dental supplies and moved that portion of the business to St. Paul, Minnesota, during our country’s western expansion years. His son John Fayette would eventually become president. John’s son William Oliver would then succeed him as president. William’s brother John “Jack” F. Patterson Jr. retired in 1977. His son, John Patterson III, Western Region manager, retired after 43 years of service in 1994. John's retirement signaled the end of the Patterson family’s involvement in the company after 117 years. Having the Patterson family lead the company for 117 years served us well; there was a continuity of philosophy which afforded a smooth transition of management and a legacy built on doing the right thing for our customers. #WeArePatterson

An unofficial goal I've carried with me is bringing an animal rescue organization to my office. Yesterday I checked that off my list! Safe Hands Rescue brought 15 puppies to Patterson Companies, Inc. for a Pup Up event. Our Patterson Foundation donated to the organization through our Dollars for Doers Program that is available to our employees. These puppies were LOVED. Earlier this month marked 5 years for me at Patterson. Find yourself a company like I have that truly lives their values. #wearepatterson

For Patterson senior quality assurance manage Lyndon Macasiljig, teamwork and proper resource management are matters of life or death. In 2019, Lyndon made the decision to climb Mt. Everest. The entire process takes roughly a month and half, requiring climbers to reach four base camps. Lyndon was joined by his friend and they made it to base camp three before his friend got altitude sickness. Three years later, Lyndon decided to try again with a new approach. First, he got in even better shape by doing Spartan Races, ultramarathons and smaller mountains. Second, a greater reliance on technology to track his progress and create a more informed plan. Finally, working on mental resilience. In his second attempt at the summit, Lyndon's group hadn't done the same amount of work. “We had to hike 42 miles out of our way to accommodate some of the others. When we reached the initial base camp, the guide told us that they weren’t going to continue.” Lyndon continued his ascent and made it to base camp two. This is where things took a turn and he was hit by altitude sickness. His options were turning back, or signing a waiver absolving his guides of liability in case the worst happened. Ultimately, he decided it wasn't a good idea to continue. “I knew my limits and didn’t try to overextend myself,” he says, providing another lesson that also pertains to Patterson employees. “I felt good about being able to work with the group and help get them as far as we did, too. I learned that if you want to go faster, go alone. But if you want to go farther, go together.” Whether he’s climbing other mountains or trusting his Patterson teammates, Lyndon truly embodies the idea that setting a goal, preparing, using your tools and knowledge, counting on your team, and making informed decisions are the keys to success professionally or personally. #WeArePatterson

The #PattersonFoundation has been busy! Erica Olsen, Patterson Dental Territory Manager out of the Milwaukee branch, met with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for a check presentation. The AACD's mission is to assist in rebuilding the smiles and lives of adults who've suffered dental injuries from domestic and sexual violence through their Give Back a Smile program. This year’s award from the Patterson Foundation for $20,000 will support this exact program! This is their fifth award since 2016, with our support totaling nearly $36,000. We asked Erica what this award means to the area: "My heart was full as the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry was founded by the late Jack Kammer, a highly respected Dentist in Madison who was well know for his professional excellence and his charitable work in the community. His son, Dr. Chris Kammer is a dear friend of mine whom I shared this with. The family is also extremely grateful for Patterson’s contribution to their father’s continued legacy. Thank you!"
