About us
Powered by attorney volunteers, Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio (PBPO) strengthens our community by providing free business legal services and education to nonprofits. We envision a just and equitable community enhanced by thriving nonprofits and engaged attorney volunteers. PBPO provides free business legal services to community-based nonprofits in Greater Cincinnati and Dayton that serve low-income or disadvantaged individuals. We match eligible nonprofits with an attorney volunteer who can help with business law matters including corporate law and governance, mergers and consolidations, intellectual property, employment, real estate, and more. In addition, PBPO provides educational workshops, webinars, and Pro Bono Legal Brief publications for nonprofits in Ohio, regardless of their status as a PBPO client. Topics include but are not limited to Nonprofit Law 101, Corporate Governance and Compliance, Fundraising, Employment, and Intellectual Property. We also provide educational opportunities for attorneys that are involved with nonprofit organizations.

Last week we welcomed more than 40 attorney volunteers and 8 nonprofit clients to a Nonprofit Legal Checkup, sponsored by CareSource. Attorneys were first educated on the basics of nonprofit legal issues, then split into groups to meet with a PBPO client. This resulted in actionable legal projects for each nonprofit. Now, our Staff Attorneys are hard at work helping each client review identified legal needs, and prioritize which to address first. Thank you to our event sponsor, speakers, attorney volunteers, and nonprofit clients. Together, we are strengthening our community! Speakers: Chad Eckhardt, Esq., Frost Brown Todd Deborah Brenneman, Esq., Thompson Hine LLP Kristin Hardy, Esq., Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP Erin Starkey, Esq., Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio From Fatherless to Fearless, Ohio CDC Association, NCCJ, Access Center for Independent Living, La Soupe, Inc., Artemis Center, Therapeutic Riding Institute, Inc., Agape for Youth, Inc.

Wow! We had an absolutely amazing time last week celebrating National #ProBonoWeek! Simply put, PBPO would not be able to carry out our mission without the dedication and talent of our 1,000+ attorney volunteers. From all of us at PBPO - THANK YOU for all you do to strengthen our community. Thank you, as well, to our Pro Bono Week Presenting Sponsor, Ohio State Bar Foundation! Adam Centner [Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL (KMK Law)] is PBPO's 2023 Law Firm Attorney of the Year. As an attorney volunteer since 2017, Adam has worked on 26 legal projects for five different nonprofits, including a transformative merger project for Queen City Book Bank. Michelle Otten Guenther, President of Queen City Book Bank said: "Adam engaged with us, I felt that he truly cared about our mission. He was wonderful to work with. Our Board and team were able to trust we were in the absolute best hands possible with Adam." Adam - simply put, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to PBPO! #CelebrateProBono

Earlier this year, Bridget Gannon McGraw (GE Aerospace) was awarded with PBPO's 2023 Corporate Attorney of the Year Award for her continued dedication to strengthening our community with free business legal services for local nonprofits. Bridget has volunteered with PBPO since 2016. Since then, she has worked directly with over 10 nonprofits on legal matters, served as an attorney volunteer for five legal checkups, and she even wrote a Pro Bono Brief for distribution to nonprofits. The value of Bridget’s volunteer time is over $45,000! Please join us in saying "thank you!" to Bridget this #ProBonoWeek! #CelebrateProBono

Jason Stuckey (Bricker Graydon) has been a PBPO volunteer for 6+ years, and one of the many clients he has helped during that time hits very close to home, in fact, he is an alumnus of PBPO client Cincinnati Tennis Foundation – a local nonprofit dedicated to using tennis as a vehicle to positively impact lives. Jason helped the organization on two important legal matters – with an estimated value of legal services saved for the organization at nearly $4,000. For a small nonprofit, this is a game changer. We are grateful for Jason's commitment to strengthening our nonprofit community! #CelebrateProBono https://bit.ly/3YlfIc3

Nearly 400 local nonprofits count on PBPO to help them navigate legal questions – and that number hasn’t stopped growing. In 2023, there was a surge in demand for PBPO’s free legal services and we responded to a 71% increase in new nonprofit client requests. We hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to PBPO during National Pro Bono Week to help ensure our community of nonprofits can continue to access the legal support they need!
