‘What roles do individuals, groups, and institutions play in upholding democratic ideals and strengthening practices?’ or ‘What unites and divides Americans?’ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dive into these thought-provoking questions with your students using the Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places series by Institute of Museum and Library Services and PBS Books— a free resource for educators! Educators, this school year inspire your secondary school students with a classroom education guide including video clips, lesson plans, and student activities based on the Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places series. Visions of America is in celebration of the US Semiquincentennial #America250 and explores our nation and the places, people, and stories that contribute to the America we live in today. Hosted by the former Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Crosby Kemper, the series visits museums and libraries to help tell some of the nation’s lesser-known stories. Notable historians and authors share a deeper understanding of the stories and themes that reverberate inside the walls of these institutions and each episode explores the cities these institutions call home. The accompanying classroom educational guide was designed to provide Social Studies and English Language Arts teachers the opportunity to bring these unique voices and stories into their classrooms and has been arranged topically into standards-based learning plans to help teachers and their students meet learning objectives Take students on a rich and diverse journey with video clip highlights featuring stories of Cuban Americans, Asian Pacific Americas, Negro Leagues Baseball, American Jazz, First Americans, and more while learning about the institutions that safeguard and share these uniquely American tales. Across 8 thematic sections such as Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens, Unity and Culture and Identity, students will be prompted to contemplate essential questions. Visit https://lnkd.in/gWVqmMc3 to download the classroom educational guide, as well as other resources such as booklists and music playlists! Full length videos of the episodes highlighted in the curriculum and more episodes including stories of Arab Americans, African American genealogy and female leaders of museums and libraries can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g38EKBbu #America250 #IMLS250 #EducationalResources
