About us
The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District (P-BVUSD) provides a safe, supportive environment where all students can ask questions, find answers, reach their full academic potential and become caring, responsible citizens. Established in 1875, the original district housed a mere 11 students in makeshift lean-to structures. Today, the student population numbers over 18,000, and pupils from Pre-K through eighth grade receive instruction in the most modern of facilities. The P-BVUSD takes pride in its motto, "Excellence in Education." The district employs a staff of dedicated, energetic, and highly qualified teachers who respect and enjoy working with students. Bakersfield is ideally located in the southern portion of central California. To the south is Los Angeles, a two-hour drive over a scenic mountain highway known as "The Grapevine." Three hundred miles to the north is the "Golden Gate City," San Francisco. Morro Bay and the beautiful Pacific coastline are a short two and one-half hour drive to the west. Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks are also within driving distance. The popular Lake Isabella recreational area is less than an hour's drive through the majestic Kern River Canyon. The P-BVUSD is proud of its well-defined heritage which strongly correlates student assessment with classroom instruction. The state adopted district curriculum is implemented by highly qualified teachers who receive professional development designed to enhance knowledge, skills, and attitudes to improve student achievement. Our mission is to provide quality learning opportunities for every student by supporting teachers through mentoring and high quality appropriate professional development. Curriculum specialists, principals, and categorical program specialists facilitate in-depth, structured and consistent support to all our teachers as they provide standards based instruction to educate our changing student population.

Katie Angevine couldn't have said it better. We are incredibly grateful to Panama-Buena Vista Union School District for including TETER in the crucial role of designing a new school to meet the unique needs of the local community.
It was a privilege to spend the morning with Panama-Buena Vista Union School District as we officially broke ground on the new Mountain View TK-8 campus designed by TETER Architects and Engineers. I am looking forward to seeing this design come to life and the impact it will have on the many students that will embark on the dual emersion learning pathway here in Kern County.

How do you bring Neurodiversity and Universal Design for Learning in the same room as district adopted curriculum? Easy! You hold a collaborative and interactive professional development course on it- and that’s just what we did at Panama-Buena Vista Union School District ‘s pbvU session. All teachers with different credentials explored the ideas and strategies on how we can make our classrooms more inclusive and accessible. The most effective portion was having our guest speaker, Michael Precourt, share why it’s important to create a culture of appreciation, accessibility, and belonging; not only for the benefit of our classrooms, but for a child’s autonomy in their future and our communities.
