At Peaceful Prisons Project, we believe in the power of shared light. Just as a candle loses nothing by lighting another, so too do we find strength in community and compassion. Together, we illuminate paths of hope, healing, and transformation, proving that kindness can flourish even in the darkest places. 🕯️ #community #mentalhealth #prisonreform #massincarceration #spreadthelight

Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) is a psychiatric condition that impacts individuals who have been released from incarceration. It encompasses a variety of psychological, emotional, and social challenges that can emerge following imprisonment. These challenges may include depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), difficulties in readjusting to life outside prison, and trouble establishing and maintaining relationships. Although PICS is not officially recognized as a psychiatric disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) or the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the term is used by some researchers and practitioners to highlight the significant psychological hurdles faced by people reintegrating into society after incarceration.
