We are trying to change tension in the dural attachments and increase or balance the flow of CSF. Only when using sutural based techniques are we focusing on actual cranial joint/suture motion. The tension in the dura is directly reflected in its attachments to the cranial bones as well as their inherent flexibility. Motion is really a perception in the change in tension. With intra-oral corrections we are often feeling for a softening of the contact while at the same time creating a vector force that our external contact can monitor. The intraoral line of correction and pressure needs to be monitored and changed as we make the correction in order to produce a relaxation in the tissues we are contacting as well as feeling the change in the external contact. Respiration is useful in assisting these corrections but when working with young children or infants the respiratory mechanism is not available and adapting pressure gradients and vectors becomes even more important. Once you have determined your line of correction and figured out all the left-brain stuff you need to be specific, let is go drmartinrosen.com

What we call primary respiratory motion is based on the relationship between the movement of the sacrum and occiput (sphenobasilar junction). This is a reciprocal motion that facilitates the movement of CSF and plays a major role in balancing the tension in the dural meningeal system. It is important that the spinal dural system is balanced and working correctly to facilitate the correction of the sphenobasilar. The other factor involved is the proper relationship of C2 as a primary focal motor unit for dural attachment. Whether you are using HVLA technique or dural/tonal ones, before addressing the sphenobasilar make sure the sacrum-C2-occiput relationship is corrected, it will make your work much easier and receptive. drmartinrosen.com

We find visual analysis an indispensable part of our cranial analysis. The purpose of visual analysis is to help determine where the primary cranial subluxation is and how to correct it. Once you determine that some of the other parameters for normal cranial bone motion are aberrant then the visual analysis can help delineate the exact subluxation. For example, if you find abnormal fontanelle presentations, reduced CRI, decreased sutural mobility, abnormal dural tension, specific symptoms or all or any of these factors when evaluating the cranium the visual analysis can clarify where the abnormal findings are originating If a baby is having difficulty nursing and you evaluate the palate and jaw and find that is swings to one side when opening and the baby has a stronger suck on one side or prefers to nurse on one breast there can be numerous causes of this issue. If your visual analysis shows a smaller orbit on the side of jaw deviation, a stronger suck on that side and a high occiput as well, these factors would lead to an internal frontal bone subluxation as the major issue. Studying and learning this process can save you time and increase positive patient response. Join us: drmartinrosen.com

We wanted to talk a little about the differences between the direct and indirect method of cranial adjusting. The idea is to follow the path of least resistance when making cranial adjustments. Both methods get you to the same place with slightly different protocols. In the direct method you are moving a cranial bone from point A to point B from a subluxated direction “directly” not the direction you feel the bone should be moved to. In the indirect method you first move the bone into its compensated/subluxated state to allow the body to relax its defensive mechanism. When you feel a relaxation increased motion of the bone into its compensated position, you can assume the body's defense mechanism has been relaxed. Once this occurs you quickly shift the direction of the correction to the line of drive you want the cranial bone to be when the adjustment is completed. So in the direct method the patient's body is not holding the compensation pattern and restricting your ability to make the correction. The indirect technique is used when the patient is invested, physiologically in the subluxation and you need to allow them to release the pattern before you make the correction. drmartinrosen.com

Chiropractic Cranial Adjusting Programs are the art and science of restoring normal function to the cranial/dural-meningeal respiratory mechanism and the movement of cerebrospinal fluid. Since 80% of the central nervous system is located in the brain, correcting cranial imbalances are paramount to a total health care approach. SOT offers a very specific and safe system for restoring normal cranial functional mechanics and neurological balance. Many issues that are not responding to spinal care alone are facilitated by the addition of cranial adjusting procedures. drmartinrosen.com
