If you are seeking a primary care provider or a mental health provider, it may be time to look for a cash-pay provider. Cash-pay practices allow providers to have fewer patients on their panel which means more access to your primary care provider, a stronger patient-provider relationship, increased ease with communicating with your provider, and increased ability to reach your physical and mental health goals. Why does this matter? If you are able to build a relationship with your provider, you are then able to reach your goals more easily and have access to the care needed more easily as well. High deductible insurance plans are becoming more common place and you end up paying out of pocket up front anyway, why not pay up front with a provider that has availability to see you within the week instead of within 3 months AND has the time to see you more quickly than waiting in a waiting room for an hour? That same provider will also be more easily accessible and will be able to answer your quick questions much more quickly than waiting for responses through portals. The relationships built with your providers ease the stress and tension associated with care and its a bonus if your mental health provider and medical provider can collaborate to care for the whole you instead of acute symptoms episodically.
