"PeerForward taught me that there are so many resources at my disposal that I can use to help myself and others..." We are starting up our Alumni Spotlights again, starting with Irène Diane! Formerly a Bowie Peer Leader, she now proudly attends Princeton University as part of the class of 2027 where she is pursuing a major in Politics and a minor in Classics. We caught up with Irène to discuss her college experience thus far and what advice she would give to current Peer Leaders. About us
PeerForward's mission is to unleash the power of positive peer influence to transform the lives of youth living in low-income communities by connecting them to college and careers. Formerly known as College Summit, PeerForward taps a readily available resource found in every high school - influential students - to improve postsecondary success outcomes. We train and support teams of students on the planning and admissions process for higher education. Those teams of students return to their high schools and run campaigns to guide and assist their peers on the path to college. Our partner high schools show 26% higher rates of financial aid applications when compared to similar schools, and see their college enrollment increase by an average of 20%.

A Night Among Peers On Monday, October 7, we hosted our annual Board Dinner at the Cornell Club in NYC. Our CEO, Gary Z. Linnen, moderated a fireside chat with special guest Rishi Jaitly, Senior Advisor to OpenAI, and two of our rockstar Peer Leaders from the High School for Law & Public Service, Lima Islamova and Jennifer Gonzalez. The conversation centered on AI and its impact on PeerForward’s equity work, the education system, and more. Tomorrow, October 5th, is World Teacher Day! In celebration, PeerForward is highlighting Basheeru Camara, who acted as an Advisor for The Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem during the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Camara accompanied his students to PeerForward’s University of Redlands Workshop this past summer, where our marketing team got the opportunity to speak with him about how he saw his students blossom over their 4 days with us and how he thinks this experience will impact the culture of their school moving forward. You can read the full interview on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eKWj7Y-A #worldteacherday #peerforward #educatorspotlight

The Better FAFSA was meant to simplify financial aid, but instead, it created new obstacles for students nationwide. YOU can help them by supporting PeerForward’s efforts. John Paul, a 2023-2024 Peer Leader, is proof that our organization makes a difference! Yesterday, Amazon graciously invited PeerForward to join the ribbon cutting ceremony for a new fulfillment center in Delta Township. Our Managing Director of Development, Amanda Hale, and Manager of Corporate and Strategic Partnerships, Cornelius Williams, proudly represented our organization at this event. They were joined by the Peer Leaders, Advisor, and Principal from Everett High School in Lansing, Michigan. Thank you, Amazon, for providing our Peer Leaders with this opportunity and for supporting us with a generous sponsorship! You can read more about the experience in our latest blogpost: https://lnkd.in/ersRRFhH #amazon #peerforward #sponsorship
Ever wondered what was inside those Amazon fulfillment centers? Yesterday, we were invited to the ribbon-cutting event for the 1M sq. ft. LAN2 fulfillment center in Lansing, MI and it is an intricate facility filled with tons of technology! But my highlight was receiving a 💰$10,000 sponsorship from Amazon💰 to support PeerForward programming at Everett HS, Magic Johnson's Alma Mater! Seeing the excitement in the eyes and body language of 6 Peer Leaders who were so eager to learn about the inside workings of Amazon made me appreciate this mission on a different level. Students value exposure to various career pathways and yesterday a 🔥was lit and new possibilities were awakened within the Peer Leaders. Not only did they learn about how Amazon could benefit them financially but also educationally with their robust benefit package that includes tuition support! Our Peer Leaders networked with state politicians, commerce executives, Amazonians, and community leaders and are on a mission to change their school's culture. This may sound like an Amazon ad 😅 but it's a thank you for their support to Amazonians, education, and the communities they serve. Thank you to Paula D. Morrison and Ian Conyers for their leadership, support and dedication to education. Special thanks to Will Lemmink at FOX 47 (WSYM) for capturing this amazing story. Our PeerForward team from Hazard Community and Technical College welcomed new Peer Leaders last week! As part of our PeerForward in College program, they will work to influence fellow students towards earning degrees, reducing inequities in higher education attainment. We can’t wait to see all that they accomplish on campus this year! #peerforward #peerforwardincollege #pfic
