Meet Kacy Sommers, Front End Engineer. Let's learn more about Kacy. Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Well I’m from Ohio, where I live once again after swearing for 15 years that I’d never go back. But it’s fascinating and surreal being back and seeing this world I grew up in through a completely different lens. I was raised Mennonite — not Old Order or anything, but my grandfather was amish and left when he was young and was shunned by all his siblings. My grandma always spoke Pennsylvania Dutch with her friends and I loved listening to them chat around the card table. My dad is a retired middle school teacher (at my middle school, which was kind of a nightmare), and my mom now lives on a beautiful farm in rural Ohio. They both try their best to understand what it is I do for work every day. After a couple nomadic decades I’m now tucked away in Gambier, Ohio with my wife Savanna, our dog Joni, our cat Emmylou and our two chickens, Frannie and Wren. We’ve found a great community here and we love having our friends over for campfires, potlucks and music making. What's the most interesting place you've ever traveled to? A few years ago I took a trip to Southeast Asia, landing in Bangkok and making our way over to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where my uncle was living and running a restaurant at the time. On a trip filled with lasting memories, mostly beautiful but some a bit haunting (the landmine museum always comes to mind), the most indelible was of course our tour of the ancient Hindu/Buddhist temple Angkor Wat. So much incredible history and so many intricate ruins swallowed by the jungle, I highly recommend making the journey!

"Alexis Hammond, a 42-year-old psychiatrist in Baltimore, got the idea in 2020 after joining a financial literacy book club. Soon after listing her home on Peerspace, Hammond had earned enough in one month to cover her mortgage. While the income varies, she was eventually able to afford a second house next door, which she bought for the sole purpose of renting it out." Meet Maria Silva Gaio, EU Host Acquisition Manager. Let's learn more about Maria. Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Although I am an only daughter, my grandparents had five kids and moved around three continents with their kids (Europe, Africa, and Asia). The 1st time they moved, they had to travel by boat as there were no planes to Mozambique back then - the traveling took them a whole month. Last year, we also realized that none of their six grandkids currently live in their birth countries. I believe this nomad and conquerer spirit is slightly embedded in my family’s DNA, and it’s interesting to see how it professionally ties to what I enjoy doing, which is expanding companies into new territories! What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? The best advice I received was during my first decade of life, and it was given to me at home. We are all worthy of what we are and should never doubt it. There will always be improvements we can make and skills we can learn and develop - we should embrace that growth, but no one should ever make us doubt our value as a person.

Meet Dex Palmer, Trust & Safety Investigator. Let's learn more about Dex. Tell us a little bit more about yourself! I live in Salt Lake City, I was born and raised here, and the majority of my family lives here as well. I am the middle child, though it wasn’t that way until I was about 19. I have one older sister and one younger sister. I used to compete in Jamskating competitions across the U.S. Jamskating is essentially breakdancing on roller skates. I started when I was around 11 years old and competed until I was 18, at which point life got busy with college and work. I still skate a couple of times a month, helping out my old teammates with teaching new skaters, creating new routines, or judging local competitions. Otherwise, I play a lot of video games (PC), my vinyl collection is slowly growing, and I’m planning some over-landing trips for this summer What’s a skill you’d love to learn if you had the time? I really enjoy cooking. I am constantly trying to push myself to cook new dishes, hone my knife skills, and develop my palette. There’s a local culinary school that offers a 12-week culinary certificate course which I’d love to take in the future.

Great piece by Sara B. in the San Francisco Business Times on new Peerspace CEO Kevin Yuann's arrival, and a look at where the company is heading next: "In the future, Peerspace also plans on adding additional services to help users manage all aspects of event planning. 'If someone wants to book a birthday party or a baby shower in a space, it's not as easy as just picking the space. You've got to think about all the things that go into that in terms of catering, any sort of activities, clean up,' Yuann said. 'I think we have a real opportunity to solve that and make it easy.'" https://lnkd.in/eYEKffsb
