As cannabis laws evolve, so do perceptions about its health effects and risks, creating mixed messages that can lead to the rationalization of problematic use. The reality is that regular or heavy use of cannabis can result in Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD)—a progressive loss of control over consumption that can cause significant impairment and distress. Today, 17.7 million U.S. adults are living with CUD, a 15% increase year-over-year. When cannabis use affects employees or their family members, the repercussions extend beyond health impacts and can affect workplace productivity, absenteeism, and safety. CUD education is needed.
