Now that the rain is back and temperatures are dropping, it’s time to pull out your winter work boots! When Danner Boots needed help promoting its Heritage Worksite product line for a national advertising campaign, it reached out to us about using real construction workers from a real jobsite in Oregon. After scouting several locations, it selected one of ours for its shoot. Our Pence crew members participated in a full-day photo session on a quintessential cold, wet fall day, which was rough but also fun as they got the full modeling experience – complete with repeating the same movements over and over until the perfect photos were captured! Thanks to our Pence models, managers and safety team for your assistance, as well as to the whole Danner Boots marketing squad for teaming up with us to feature your products with our project as the setting. Jobsite: Anthology of Beaverton, completed in April 2024 (Senior Living Community)   #construction #contractor #dannerboots #fallgear #heritageworksiteboots #pencecontractors #pencepeople #rainyseason #workboots

What a day for a pour! Early this morning our team placed the first slab-on-grade foundation for the new Raleigh Hills Elementary School in SW Portland. It consisted of 188 cubic yards of concrete over approximately 10,000 square feet in sector C of the jobsite. Next up will be another SOG pour in sector B as weather permits. Thanks to our P/K crew and teammates at Larusso Concrete, Inc who put this excellent work in place and finished it with such quality craftsmanship! We appreciate your hard work and it shows in the end product. It’s exciting to see the school’s footprint start coming together. Pence is celebrating 75 years of Building Space for People to Flourish!   Our company’s two primary owners, Paul and Dave, have been with us for 30 years - almost half the time Pence has been around! Can you believe that? Where were you in 1994? We’re beyond grateful for their consistent leadership, which has shaped Pence into the company it is today. Their vision and commitment have built upon Dale Pence’s and created opportunities for others to grow. Thank you, Paul and Dave, for your dedication to Pence’s values and our collective success. We wouldn’t be where we are without you! #cheersto75years #constructionindustry #pencecontractors #pencepeople #wesucceedtogether

Pence doesn’t often weigh in on politics, but Ballot Measure 118 has prompted us to speak out. On Nov. 5, Oregon voters will be asked to decide on many potential initiatives, including M118. This measure proposes a 3% tax on sales for Oregon businesses with revenues over $25 million. If passed, M118 will substantially impact many construction companies like ours, especially with the rising costs of building. Here’s why we’re concerned: ·        Measure 118 is a tax on sales: Costs will snowball as goods and services get taxed at various stages of purchasing, passing the burden along to all businesses and consumers involved. ·        Prices on goods and services will rise: The cost of living has already increased significantly the past few years and additional financial burdens are the last thing Oregon consumers and businesses need right now. ·        Lack of accountability: If M118 passes, the legislature could change it without any oversight. We don’t take this stance lightly. We urge all Oregonians to educate themselves about Measure 118, understand its true costs and vote in November. If you stand with Oregon’s construction businesses, please share this post and let others know about M118’s impact. *This is the political stance of Pence Companies and may not represent the opinion of individual employees. #costlytaxonsales

Out in Central Oregon, our interns Dylan and Kagan learned the ropes of construction at two active jobsites the past few months. Dylan was based at the Deschutes County Courthouse where he learned how to post requests for information (RFIs), mark up sets of drawings and create site videos/walkthroughs. His favorite part of the job was participating in meetings, hearing about issues and solving problems, as well as being out on the jobsite. Dylan said this internship helped him develop proficiency in construction software, which will give him a jumpstart in his upcoming college courses and career. (Photos 1-5) Kagan spent his summer at the Redmond Public Safety Facility project! He gained knowledge about how to communicate with the team/subcontractors, review drawings, compare specifications, and prepare RFIs and submittals. His favorite part was observing the process and progress by regularly walking the jobsite. Kagan’s experience helped advance his education by providing insights about focusing his civil engineering degree more toward construction or structural applications. He learned a lot from his internship that he's excited to carry with him as he continues school. (Photos 6-10)   Thanks for all your hard work this summer, Dylan and Kagan! #buildingspaceforpeopletoflourish #buildingspacefordeschutescountytoflourish #buildingspaceforredmondtoflourish #construction #constructioninternship #contractor #driventoconstantlyimprove #internships #internshipprogram #pencecontractors

Cheers to our Senior Superintendent Dan Roesler on retiring! He tried to retire once before and fortunately we recruited him back to work with us the past few years. Thanks for all your contributions at Pence and being such a knowledgeable and kind colleague. It’s been an absolute pleasure having you on our team. Congratulations Dan and we hope you enjoy every minute of your well-earned retirement! #pencecontractors #pencepeople #retirement #seniorsuperintendent #wesucceedtogether

Our cross-laminated timber (CLT) installation at the new Redmond Public Safety Facility is coming together quickly! The entire structure of the new building is comprised of CLT, including the second floor and roof decks, along with most of the walls – totaling more than 370 horizontal and vertical panels plus glulam and columns. Utilizing this material offers a range of benefits from sustainability and a warm aesthetic to its durability, fire resistance and ballistic resistance for security. CLT serves as both the structural and finish material, which also makes it cost efficient. Gigantic, prefabricated CLT panels got trucked to the jobsite then hoisted up with a crane similar to how tilt-up concrete slabs are installed. The heaviest one weighs approximately 6,700 pounds. It’s quite impressive! Thanks to all our trade partners for the amazing progress made so far along with our core project team made up of the City of Redmond, Oregon, FFA Architecture and Interiors, Inc. and the Cumming Group project management crew.   Construction on this 43,000 SF project is expected to be complete in 3Q 2025 and is largely financed by a 2022 Redmond voter-approved bond. #bondproject #buildingspaceforredmondtoflourish #collaboration #crosslaminatedtimber #groundupconstruction #pencecontractors #publicsafety #redmondpolice #wesucceedtogether Redmond Police Department, Oregon Photos by Matt Swain Photography
