Penny's Flight is a charity organization raising awareness and funding for the genetic disorder NF.

About us

Penny’s Flight Foundation was launched in celebration of the extraordinary life of Penny Doerge and the qualities that she personified — joy, artistic expression and humor — while bravely living with Neurofibromatosis (NF) since infancy. The Foundation’s mission is to make much-needed advances in medical research on Neurofibromatosis and related disorders — with a lasting impact on altering the course of this disease. There is no cure for NF and research around the disease remains underfunded, despite being one of the most common genetic disorders in the United States. Through Penny’s story and bright light, the Foundation aims to expand knowledge around NF, while inspiring others to find beauty in imperfection, positivity in the face of challenge, and faith over fear.

  • 🦋 “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible”~ Dalai Lama🦋 Penny truly embodied kindness, showing us that even the smallest gestures can spark meaningful change, just like the gentle flap of a butterfly’s wing. 🦋 Today, let’s honor her memory by spreading kindness, lifting each other up, and remembering that we all have the power to make a difference. Together, we can carry her light forward and continue inspiring hope and JOY. 🦋

  • 🦋 Live Like Penny and Be a Butterfly🦋 They say a butterfly's wings can set off a ripple of change—a small action that leads to something far greater. This is the essence of Penny’s impact. Her light, her kindness, her courage—it all started a chain reaction, touching countless lives in ways we may never fully see. Penny lived the true meaning of the butterfly effect, reminding us that even the smallest acts of love can create waves of compassion and positivity. Her spirit continues to inspire us to spread our wings, embrace life, and make a difference in the world. Thank you Penny for always reminding us that ripple starts with us. 🦋

  • 🦋 Live Life Like Penny 🦋 As we start a new week, let's bring a little sunshine and embrace life the way Penny did—fearlessly and with a heart full of kindness. • 🦋 Positively Penny: When Wings Align 🦋 It was a beautiful, serendipitous moment when Ella and Kate (who live on opposite sides of the country) met at Vanderbilt University and discovered their shared connection to Penny’s story and the mission of our Foundation. This bond has now sparked the launch of a new school chapter: Penny’s Flight Vanderbilt University Here’s what they had to say: “We are beyond excited to bring Penny's Flight to Vanderbilt! Join us in raising awareness about NF, supporting research, spreading love and kindness, and most importantly, living like Penny! DM us with any questions—we'd love to connect! Stay tuned for events and updates!” We’re thrilled about the future of the Vandy Chapter. Ella and Kate, you’re spreading wings and making us so very proud!

  • 🦋Alex Runs for PDAA: Countdown to the NYC Marathon!🦋 We’re excited to continue cheering on Alex Ehrhart, an inspiring NF Warrior who will run her first NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 3rd, to support the Penny Doerge Adaptive Academy at Hospital for Special Surgery. Diagnosed with neurofibromatosis at a young age, just like Penny, Alex developed a benign tumor on her thoracic spine. Thanks to Dr. Dan Green and the team at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Alex not only had her spine repaired but was given the chance to live without limits. “For me, running a marathon isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s a way to give back to the hospital that helped me live life to the fullest.” We’re behind you all the way, Alex! We can’t wait to see you cross that finish line and continue living life to the fullest! Support Alex’s NYC Marathon PDAA fundraiser: https://lnkd.in/evtJnXwq

  • 🦋Positively Penny Inspiring the Next Chapter🦋 Meet Alivia Hill, a junior at Indiana University Bloomington and the founder of one of the newest Penny’s Flight chapters, @pennysflight_iub . Inspired by our foundation and Penny’s story, Alivia felt compelled to start this chapter to raise awareness about NF. Her personal connection to the cause comes from her youngest sister, Harper, who was diagnosed with NF1 as a toddler, just like Penny. Harper is now 6 years old, and Alivia is determined to make a difference in honor of her sister and others affected by NF. Through her chapter, she is not only committed to raising awareness but also raising funds to help find a cure for NF. Thank you , Liv for your support and helping us spread wings and shine a light. We WILL #ENDNF together 🦋
