Meet Jordan, and her kitties, Quincy Mae and Loki! 🐈 Jordan is from Long Beach where she worked as a sales associate and a coffee shop manager. While working, she decided to pursue her degree in graphic design. Due to the stress of managing her workload and school, Jordan began to use substances, which led her to lose her jobs. She began to experience homelessness, living on the streets in downtown Los Angeles. One day, an outreach worker knocked on her tent and asked if Jordan and her kitties would like to be connected to Mayor Karen Bass' Inside Safe Initiative. She said yes! After a few weeks of staying in interim housing, she was able to move into her apartment through Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's Master Lease program, with onsite supportive services offered by PATH. Recently, Jordan celebrated one year of sobriety! She is now in her last semester of college and looks forward to graduating and starting her career as a graphic designer. If you live in the Los Angeles area, you can vote to strengthen the kinds of services that helped Jordan make it home. The Bold New Way is a countywide measure on the ballot this November. It will guarantee funding for the outreach and addiction services that helped Jordan, and increase affordable housing and homelessness prevention for people across Los Angeles. Register to vote (vote.gov) and vote YES on Measure A! #endhomelessness #losangeles #vote #measurea

We are so grateful to Congressmember Sara Jacobs for her support of our newest permanent supportive housing site, PATH Villas El Cerrito. This building has 40 supportive housing units, 18 of which are designated for people who experience chronic homelessness. This site opened to residents last week and is already making a significant impact on the lives of our neighbors. #endhomelessness #elcerrito #affordablehousing

Our friends at Brookfield Properties know how to support their community! These fantastic community partners came by Connections Housing San Diego with an incredible amount of household goods for our residents, including dishes, towels, and decorative items to help our residents feel at home in their new space. They also hosted a water and clothing drive for outreach teams to share with our unhoused neighbors. Thank you, Brookfield! If you're interested in supporting our residents with household goods, send an email to our Associate Director of External Affairs in San Diego, Sigrid Struben, at SigridS@epath.org! #givingback #sandiego #endhomelessness

What does Governor Newsom's Executive Order to clear encampments mean for unhoused Californians? When we hear from people with lived experience and those on the frontlines, we see that this order is leaving unhoused individuals and families with nowhere to turn. PATH Outreach Case Manager Kendall Burdett shared what our teams are seeing with CalMatters emphasizing how repeated sweeps disrupt the process of placing people into housing. One of our residents at Connections Housing San Diego held a gardening class for their fellow residents and taught them how to make "kokedamas," which is a Japanese planting style where the plant grows out of a ball of soil, covered in moss and then yarn or twine. 🌻 We were so thankful to come together, share a sense of community, and learn a new skill! Live in San Diego? Have a skill to share with our residents? Email PATH Community Affairs Coordinator, Hayley Bratt, at HayleyB@epath.org! #endhomelessness #sandiego #greenthumb

Meet Shaneece and Lanyah! 💖 Shaneece grew up in the foster system in San Diego and struggled to find stable housing as an adult. She worked in security and took maternity leave when she became pregnant with her daughter. At that time, she experienced a rent increase she couldn't afford and then had to live in motels. She eventually began to experience homelessness with her newborn, Lanyah, and for over two years, they lived in parks across San Diego. The struggles of living outdoors, coupled with her postpartum depression, were overwhelming, and she was constantly trying to figure out how to eat, bathe, and where to sleep every day. Shaneece shared, "Being homeless, you have to start over every day." Then, she met Jordan on our outreach team, and Jordan became her case manager. Shaneece said Jordan was always responsive and never judged her. Jordan helped Shaneece get back on track, and she was able to help her move into a two-bedroom apartment with her daughter. They now live close to the parks they used to sleep in, something Shaneece says is "bittersweet" because it is a reminder of their life then, but she is filled with hope now. She is going back to school to study psychology and hopes to work with foster youth and underserved communities. Shaneece wants people to know that there is help out there. Thank you to Jordan and our outreach teams for making stories like this possible! Welcome home, Shaneece and Lanyah! 🏡 #endhomelessness #sandiego
