This morning, our team in Chesapeake, VA was proud to host Rep. Bobby Scott, Congressman for the 3rd District of Virginia, who delivered a $4 million grant to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deepen the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River.   This event at our Chesapeake Deepwater Bulk Terminal commemorates a major step forward to enhance our vessel operations, and is the culmination of years of commitment by Congressman Scott, Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and our partners at Virginia Maritime Association, The Port of Virginia, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. This team’s partnership and dedication to wider, deeper, and safer channels in this area of Virginia are unmatched, and it was an honor to be a part of this investment in our economy.

Happy #NationalFarmersDay! Today and every day, we thank our incredible family farmers whose work and dedication help put meals on tables across the country. This week at our Animal Care Summit, we had the opportunity to hear from a panel of farmers and ranchers who sit on Perdue’s Farmers Council share their unique perspectives on farm life. Their insights and recommendations are invaluable to Perdue as we hope to inspire the next generation of farmers. #PerdueProud

Our 9th Annual Animal Care Summit is a wrap! This second day of open dialogue with animal care experts, farmers, and customers was a time to learn about important topics in the world of animal health and welfare.   The morning’s agenda included discussions on spacious and complex living environments to boost chickens’ health, dark meat’s flavor and health benefits, and an engaging overview of aerospace technology and its application in chicken houses. In the afternoon, attendees heard about the Gen Z consumer and their relationship with food, as well as the “chicken of tomorrow” and innovations that will ensure animal welfare while producing a quality product. The day closed with a presentation exploring the topic of “pasture-raised,” consumer confusion over its definition, and Perdue and Pasturebird's efforts to standardize the term, followed by an overview of Brake Farm, a North Carolina-based poultry learning center, and a panel discussion with our valued farmers who participate in Perdue’s Farmer Council.    Thank you for following along for this year's Animal Care Summit and supporting Perdue's journey of continuous improvement in animal welfare! This week, we are hosting our 9th annual Animal Care Summit. It’s an incredible opportunity to connect in-person with farmers, customers and animal care experts. Every year, the thoughtful conversations we have during the summit leave me inspired to continue to set the highest standards of well-being for the animals in our care. Thank you to our valued partners who have chosen to join Perdue Farms on this journey of continuous improvement and to the heart of all our efforts, our associates, for their tireless work to keep raising the bar in animal care. #PerdueAnimalCareSummit #PerdueProud

Today, we celebrate the first day of a two-day event: our 9th annual Animal Care Summit! During this special time of the year, we meet with animal care experts, farmers, customers, and community leaders to share our animal care initiatives and efforts toward continuous improvement in the area of animal welfare. Our first day of events included presentation of a mobile floorless chicken coop, presented by our friends at Pasturebird. The 100% solar-powered house is hinged to travel across most farm terrain, provides chickens with fresh space to forage each day and contributes to farmland regeneration. Representatives from our premium meat brand Niman Ranch were on hand to discuss crate-free care of hogs as well as the contributions that proper genetics and nutrition make to flavor and overall quality. Tour goers also learned about Perdue’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions, including monitoring of carbon emissions at every step in our supply chain and crop farming initiatives that improve soil health, mitigate climate change, promote biodiversity, conserve natural resources, and protect the land for future generations of farming families.   A treat for those in attendance: The Perdue Family Farmhouse, a homestead built in 1917 by company founder Arthur W. Perdue and now listed on the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties, was open for tours. Attendees who strolled through the home learned more about the family history as well as the company’s evolution.   And there’s more to come! Please follow along as we post highlights of tomorrow’s lineup of events: panel discussions, farmer conversations, and more!   #PerdueAnimalCareSummit #PerdueProud #animalwelfare #farminglife

Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the historic flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The unimaginable losses endured by thousands of Carolinians, in states where we operate and our associates and their families call home, is heartbreaking. To support relief efforts, Perdue Farms is sending three truckloads of frozen chicken and pet treats to western North Carolina and northwest South Carolina to help our neighbors in the communities impacted by the disaster. We hope our contributions provide nourishment for the whole family.

Agriculture is a critical part of the solution to climate change and we’re proud to be at the forefront of conversations about sustainability, participating in #ClimateWeek NYC at the Newsweek “Pillars of the Green Transition Conference.” Our commitment to sustainable agriculture not only drives our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint but also supports farmers and rural communities. It was clear in yesterday’s discussion, featuring Perdue’s Scott Raubenstine that forging long-lasting, strong partnerships across the industry – up and down the supply chain – is key to creating a future where agriculture continues to nourish the world, while also protecting the planet for generations to come. The power of our people at Perdue Farms inspires me daily! This #HungerActionMonth, our associates have been the driving force in our goal of helping alleviate food insecurity in America as evidenced by the outpouring of donations our companywide food drive has received. Perdue is proud to match those donations with an equal amount of protein for local food banks. As a food company, we are in a unique position to help fill the hunger gap through our Delivering Hope to Our Neighbors outreach and invite you to join Perdue in the fight against hunger. #PerdueProud
