Bed Bugs, transported via wheel chairs, is a common occurance. Most chairs reside beside a person's bed every night which creates ample opportunity. People are often confined to their chair for several hours each day, creating further incentive for Bed Bugs to take up residence right on the chair. It is common to find all life stages on an infested chair. This presents a significant introduction (or re-introduction) risk for many types of facilities. We have found Bed Bugs transported to and from: dialysis centers, physical therapy offices, cardiologists centers, nursing homes, day programs, general practitioners offices, government assistance offices, hospitals, dentist offices, Soup kitchens, Churches, Group homes, And more. As a general rule, the simpler the chair, the easier it is to treat and disinfect with a product like Sterifab or with a vault heat treatment. Motorized Chairs increase the complexity. It may take more than an hour to strip and treat/sanitize a single chair. This was our first seed German Roach collected to generate the lab population for our current research project. This was taken from a wild population in our area. It took three attempts to find the right conditions to care for them and allow them to thrive and propagate. Since then, we divided this roach population into two enclosures to allow for two simultaneous lines of testing.
