Nick Leahy, AIA, LEED AP and Heather Jauregui sat down with Acumen this week to share how sustainability is integral to the very core of Perkins Eastman. Stay tuned next week to watch the full interview. #PerkinsEastman #HumanByDesign #Acumen #ClimateWeek #Sustainability #SustainableDesign #Design
The built environment is responsible for 40% of global CO₂ emissions, through the energy consumed from operating the buildings to the materials extracted to construct them. Planetary resources are finite, but human ingenuity is infinite, so is there an opportunity to design a way out of this climate crisis? We sat down with Co-CEO and Executive Director, Nick Leahy, AIA, LEED AP and Principal and Director of Sustainability, Heather Jauregui, to learn more about how Perkins Eastman strives to embed sustainability into its culture, with a team who integrate sustainable concepts holistically to maximise social, economic, and environmental value in their work and lives. The Acumen team Jan James Budden, Nicoleta Romanescu, Ben Spencer, Constantin Pilavios and Katy Allan thoroughly enjoyed bringing this project to life! Watch the full campaign next week on CNBC. #humanbydesign #holisitic #climatecrisis #sustainability

Perkins Eastman Principal Eric Fang joined Gunnar Branson, CEO of AFIRE, and Heidi Theunissen, associate principal at Buro Happold, on a panel titled “Resilient Urban Development: Mitigating Climate Change Risks in Modern Cities,” which was moderated by Suhail Y Tayeb, clinical assistant professor at the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate. Caroline Qiong Wu and Shayne P. (pictured below), and Tamanna Tiku, also represented the firm at Perkins Eastman’s booth, interacting with real estate professionals from around the world on the conference floor. #PerkinsEastman #HumanByDesign #APEX2024 #Resiliency #UrbanPlanning #MENA #IndustryInsights #Conference #Design #Architecture

Perkins Eastman is dedicated to improving the health of the planet and people through #sustainabledesign. To that end, we’re proud to share that we have recently completed our first reporting cycle as part of our commitment to the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Materials Pledge (https://lnkd.in/e322d9jA). We are excited to measure our progress toward better, healthier materials as part of an industry-wide push for a more #sustainable future, and to show our support for #AEC industry efforts such as the AIA Materials Pledge, mindful MATERIALS Common Materials Framework, and more. Tanya Eagle, senior associate and leader of sustainability standards at Perkins Eastman, has served as co-chair of the AIA Materials Pledge Working Group since 2023, and was instrumental in creating the Materials Pledge reporting framework that is tracking the progress of more than 280 signatories of the AIA Materials Pledge. In addition, our sustainability team at Perkins Eastman is working hard to update our firmwide Materials Vision & Action Plan, which will complement our Sustainability Resolution and State of Sustainability reports (read the 2024 SOS report here: https://lnkd.in/eq2zXcTK). Our team has several #materialhealth initiatives underway as the firm continues to work toward continuous improvement in the selection of better, healthier materials for people and planet. Today marks the beginning of #NetZeroBuildingsWeek, a week-long celebration that supports the #builtenvironment industry in its effort to collectively advance #netzero buildings, reduce emissions, and provide safe, healthy, and resilient buildings for all. Perkins Eastman wholeheartedly believes good design is #sustainable design, and we’re proud to be walking the talk. Of our many #NetZeroEnergy projects, John Lewis Elementary School is the 1st WELL Platinum-certified school in the United States. Bard High School Early College DC has won numerous design awards, including a 2024 AIA National Education Facility Design Award, for its sustainable #adaptivereuse of a midcentury structure. And Benjamin Banneker Academic High School is the highest-performing public school in Washington, DC. In fact, our dual pursuit of achieving dramatic levels of #energyreduction and designing high-performance learning environments is so focused and distinct that we’ve trademarked a name for it: Net Positive Education. Learn more about our work on our website: https://lnkd.in/guy4MgKS, and join us this week in recognizing and celebrating the effort to #decarbonize the built environment. #PerkinsEastman #HumanByDesign #NetZeroNow #NetPositiveEducation #Sustainability #SustainableDesign #Decarbonization #Design #Architecture
