I've been through the 🏜 on a 🐎with no name....... Ten years ago today, I was notified of my Special Force’s team deployment to Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan—a mission that would change my life forever. During that deployment,among many impactful events, I experienced a traumatic brain injury when my vehicle rolled several times off a ledge into a riverbed during a night combat operation. It was a journey I’ll never forget, especially because I had the unique experience of patrolling on horseback in "Mez," much like the storied "Horse Soldiers," the Special Forces pioneers who rode into battle in Mazar-i-Sharif in November 2001. This wasn't the first time my career choice would influence my relationship with horses…   During my initial treatment for TBI, I was introduced to hippotherapy and would later get more one on one time with an amazing horse at Warrior Pathh, our partner Boulder Crest Foundation's post traumatic growth program. Through equine therapy, I learned to improve my physical skills, regulate my emotions, and regain confidence. Horses helped me connect with myself and others, creating a path toward healing. You can’t fake it with the horses… they will call you out on your BS in front of everyone!!
