Brianne Doura-Schawohl said the exposure to casino-style games, even when using virtual currently or money that isn’t “real,” may still potentially sow seeds for gambling issues. “When we talk about sweepstakes, in essence, the only thing that has changed about the product is the currency,” Doura-Schawohl told Casino Reports. “The brain isn’t going to say, ‘Well this is inherently safer because it’s not real money.’ And actually we know that the younger an individual is exposed to and engages with gambling or gaming products that emulate gambling, the greater the chances and more predisposed that individual is to develop a problem later in life.” #KnowTheRisk #GamblingTrends #HelpAndHope

One of NCPG’s primary considerations in the context of election betting is the overlap between individuals who gamble and those who engage in trading and their associated harms. Research shows a significant correlation between the two groups, suggesting that individuals who frequently gamble or trade are more likely to experience gambling-related harm. The behaviors and psychological triggers associated with gambling and gambling addiction can also manifest in trading environments. #KnowTheRisk #GamblingTrends #HelpAndHope

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Resources finds nearly 1 in 5 Ohioans are at risk of problem gambling. Of those people, the Zepf Center said college students are becoming a growing population. The Zepf Center's Manager of Problem Gambling Treatment, Megan Poliquin, said the goal is to not stop anyone from gambling but to help manage if the gambling has become a problem. "We are really focusing on spreading awareness and assertive outreach to the college students and specifically that 18 to 24 year old population," said Poliquin. "The data, we have, suggests that 18 to 24 year olds and college students are a very vulnerable population when it comes to developing a gambling problem." #GamblingTrends #HelpAndHope

US citizens can gamble on the upcoming election on Robinhood, the financial nihilism app announced. Robinhood has termed this “unlocking a new asset class that democratizes access to events as they unfold.” If you believe Kamala Harris or Donald Trump will win the presidential election, you can purchase an “event contract.” You can trade these contracts for real money; they are a kind of derivatives contract. Robinhood’s exciting new investment opportunity comes after the Commodities Future Trading Commission lost a lawsuit against a platform, Kalshi, that offers political event contracts. That case is being appealed, but won’t be decided before the current election. #GamblingTrends

Ellis Quinn, of Memphis, is charged with violation of casino gaming laws, according to an indictment in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. The Ohio Casino Control Law authorizes the Casino Control Commission to place any individual on the Involuntary Exclusion List. This list is for those who pose a threat to the integrity of casino and sports gaming. Individuals placed on the Commission’s Involuntary Exclusion List are prohibited from entering any casino facility. This ban also means the person cannot participate in gambling-related activities in the Buckeye State. According to online records, Quinn is banned from casinos in both Ohio and Pennsylvania because of previous cheating convictions. He was caught cheating at two Ohio casinos in February and March 2014 — once at the Hollywood Casino in Columbus, and again at the Hollywood Casino in Toledo. #OhioGambling #KnowTheLaw
