We invite local education agencies (LEAs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) with expertise in serving Ukrainian refugee communities, particularly school-aged children and youth, to apply. The URSI program aims to enhance California's capacity to support the academic success and community integration of Ukrainian newcomers.   • Volunteers Needed: Support Surveys, Focus Groups, and Interviews to Evaluate the Mental Health and Psychosocial Needs of Recently Resettled Afghans in the U.S. CIRH, in partnership with Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, is conducting a study to assess the mental health and psychosocial needs of recently resettled Afghans in the U.S. This research aims to provide evidence-based recommendations to enhance legal, social, and service responses to better meet the needs of Afghan communities. We are looking for volunteers for the following research activities: - Household survey: Open to the Afghan community - In-depth interviews: Open to Afghan community members and people who work closely with them - Focus groups: Open to Afghan community members and people who work closely with them As a token of appreciation: - Survey participants will receive $50 - Interview and focus group participants will receive $100 If you are interested in participating in the study, please email Esra Saleh at esaleh@phi.org and Rafiullah Sadiq at rsadiq@phi.org.   • The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Refugee Programs Bureau (RPB) developed the Afghan Support and Investment Program (ASIP) to support the transition of recent Afghan newcomers to long-term housing in California following the implementation of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) in July 2021. ASIP was designed to provide time-limited, housing-focused services and rental subsidies to help Afghan newcomers in need stabilize and move towards self-sufficiency. Who is Eligible? Afghan newcomers with a Refugee, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holder, or other eligible status that arrived in the U.S. and reside in California after September 30, 2023, or Afghans with a granted asylum date after September 30, 2023, may be eligible. What Will ASIP Need from You? - Eligibility documents for all household members - Valid, signed lease or signed affidavit confirming the applicant is living full-time at the specified address - Signed program participation consent form - Monthly proof of employment OR enrollment in RSS or any other approved employment services (more information available upon contacting our program) - Household’s portion of rent (more information on scaled subsidy available upon contacting our program) Additional details about ASIP eligibility criteria and more can be found at https://lnkd.in/e4g5ky7p.   • July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. This month aims to bring attention to the unique mental health challenges faced by minority communities. The Center for Immigrant and Refugee Health (CIRH) is committed to supporting the mental well-being of immigrants and refugees through a variety of programs. CIRH’s Refugee Mental Health Initiatives (RMHI) focus on providing culturally relevant, linguistically appropriate, and holistic care to support the mental health and well-being of refugees. The grantees we work with throughout California include refugee resettlement organizations and other community-based organizations that specialize in supporting refugees. These organizations offer culturally sensitive counseling services, community support groups, and tailored mental health education programs.
