“VoicesDMV is about more than just gathering and sharing information,” Darius Graham, The Community Foundation’s Managing Director of Community Investment shared. “It’s about turning information into action and making sure our work and that of our partners is directly informed by residents.” The Community Foundation is excited to announce the 2024 VoicesDMV Community Action Awards. The awards are part of The Community Foundation’s VoicesDMV community engagement initiative, which unveiled its most recent Community Insights Report earlier this year. https://lnkd.in/eWSar2ma

Many of our early learning partners are navigating a child care system that has conflicting quality expectations, constant regulatory changes, and duplicative oversight. Some child care options are under-regulated, others over-regulated, and some are a mix of both. In addition, WeVision EarlyEd proximity experts (families included) want to make more quality-centered and child-centered decisions but are limited by what they can afford. At the 2024 NARA – NWRA Licensing Seminar and Leadership Symposium, our team members, Demetria Joyce and Marica Cox Mitchell, explored these complexities with regulatory experts. A key takeaway? We need to streamline regulations and provide families with two clear and funded child care options: early childhood education programs that must meet the industry-recognized quality baseline, and trusted caregivers (e.g., family members, stay-at-home parents, nanny, au pair, community member, etc.). A note of GRATITUDE to the four local providers who lent their time, expertise, and voices to a panel conversation at this week's "How Funders can Invest in the Development of BIPOC Nonprofit Leaders" hosted by Philanthropy DMV and Crimsonbridge Foundation. Dana Pauley, CFRE, President and CEO of Leadership Montgomery Adam Levner, Co-Founder of Access Coaching Collective Matthew G., Executive Director of Spur Local Andre Samuels, Ed.D., Founder of Apogee Executive Coaching I encourage everyone to visit their profiles and websites to learn more about all they do to support the DMV's nonprofit leaders and the sector as a whole. Thank you also to my fellow #LeaderBridgeDC team members, especially Program Officer Robyn Attebury Ellis, for collaborating with Philanthropy DMV's Celeste A James to plan an informative and interactive event. And to Danielle M. Reyes for setting the stage for the conversation. As one attendee aptly put it - we hope this moment becomes part of a larger movement that supports and invests in nonprofit leaders of color in the DMV. #philanthropy #leadership

We're proud to have once again taken the stage at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 2024 Annual Legislative Conference! In collaboration with JPMorganChase, our powerful panel, “The Future of Black Business: Equity in Procurement and Philanthropy’s Role in Driving Access,” ignited critical discussions on the inequities Black-led firms face in small business procurement. With over 120 participants from both public and private sectors, the energy in the room was electrifying, and the commitment to equity was undeniable. Huge thanks to our partners and speakers for their invaluable insights! T.J. Breeden, EdD, MBA Nadine Duplessy Kearns Susan Taylor Batten Ted Archer Denielle Pemberton-Heard Stephen Glaude

On Tuesday, iF proudly hosted a private screening of our premier film, “Diminished Returns: The Black Wealth Gap in Washington, D.C.,” executive produced by iF Co-CEO, Temi F. Bennett, Esq. and written and directed by Sabiyha Prince. A massive shoutout to our co-hosts Bread for the City, Humanity United, and Greater Washington Community Foundation and to all of our amazing colleagues, friends, and community members who joined us for the screening. As we prepare to delve into the crucial policies and practices affecting our communities at #CBCF, it is imperative that we stand behind local economic justice issues. The choices we make regarding our priorities will either perpetuate or dismantle the structures that lead to these disparities. View the trailer and stay alert for further updates on how to show your support for #DiminishedReturns. https://lnkd.in/em3Sk-8s
