On 26 March, fourteen avid runners from Phillips will be taking part in “Chase The Moon,” an organized and timed race in Battersea Park. The participants from Phillips chose to raise funds for Art History Link Up ahead of this event. Since 2016, Art History Link-Up has been providing opportunities for young people in state supported education to study art history without charge in their free time. Art History Link-Up fosters a community of art history lovers by offering the very best teaching and works in partnership with significant collections such as the Courtauld Institute, the National Gallery and Waddesdon Manor. "The painting of portraits Is the boldest and the most difficult, the most spiritual, the most extreme task of the artist.” —Gabriele Münter As women artists began to express themselves through painting, they boldly challenged societal constraints, showcasing their talent and creativity. With greater access to formal training and increased recognition, the traditionally male-dominated art world began to transform beautifully. Self-portraits became powerful statements of individuality, allowing women to assert their agency and redefine how they were viewed. By celebrating their unique identities, these remarkable artists reshaped harmful narratives and explored vital themes of selfhood. Discover self-portraits of esteemed women artists such as Elaine de Kooning, Françoise Gilot, Frida Kahlo, Samizu Matsuki, Faith Ringgold, Lois Mailou Jones, Pan Yuliang, and Hannah Wilke. Happy International Women's Day!
